This Toronto venture is great news for our game both here and in Canada. Quite like the name of Toronto Mounties or Toronto caribous if you want to go down the animal route.

Hope they make it work cant wait to see who they sign and the proposed impact they might have on the league 1 season

I'll definitely get to at least one of their games in the UK and hopefully a few more.

What's a caribous?

Plural of caribou.

A pedant writes*: the plural of Caribou is Caribou.

*types, actually.

I thought Brian Carney was a real plonker on Sky last night and actually found myself agreeing with Phil Clarke, which was a bit odd!

He was a bit of a plonker all round last night. Had quite a nasty shouty dig at Barrie Mac who should have decked him to prove him right but gently said "let's move on"

Because punching a co-worker on live TV for making a valid point is definitely the way that professional sports commentators should behave.

This is something that seems to be missing generally and not just on this thread!

RL needs a television news specialist and a councellor in what's funny.

“I would!”

Does anyone know where will actually play?

Coincidently I'm in Toronto right now and business keeps bringing me back here.

The city is wonderful and the people extremely friendly although it is expensive for general food (£3.25 for 4 pints of milk.)

The people here are sports mad, last year I visited the Blue Jays (baseball) were going really well and we're getting around 47,000 people into the stadium every night 5 days a week.

But strangely they do not have an American football team, it didn't take off. The Canadians are very loyal to their "own" brands / sports and way of life.

I love the idea of them giving it a go and would definitely encourage it.

Lamport Stadium where the national team play

Edit:& there's every chance a NFL team may one day relocate to Toronto.Itd require a lot of money though, doubt they'd consider the Skydome swanky enough

Is the Lamport pitch up to RFL requirements?

I think it looks OK with a near 10k capacity

Piccys on Wikipedia and online

If they play international RL there and the local sports teams seem to have used it should be OK

Artificial turf, and the field measures 110 x 75, according to Wiki. A 'winter bubble' can be installed for inclement weather.

They do have a CFL team though who are moving to BMO Field (the MLS stadium) from Rogers Centre this year.  Any RL team would have both MLS and CFL playing only a few blocks away from Lamport Stadium through the summer.  (Plenty of other sports teams too:  MLB and cross over with NHL/NBA/NLL seasons.)

Good luck to them - hope it works!

why not encourage a scots or irish team in championship 1 it makes far more sense than a canadian team,

Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT

Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG

Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

Because the people behind the Toronto venture are throwing their own money into it so what's to lose? It's not only expanding the game into new areas but could potentially give a huge boost to the international game as well with a chance to really grow RL in Canada.

Have any sides in Scotland or Ireland expressed any interest in a semi-professional side?
