GMcK
Prop forward Kris Coward has signed a new deal with Workington Town for the 2017 season. The veteran prop forward who played 18 games for Town last year joins a core group of experienced re-signings that the club were targeting. The former Hensingham amateur signed for Town in 2007 and has been a key part of the forward line up since. Director of Rugby Les Ashe said ‘’Kris is a very experienced prop whose size makes him very difficult to handle. He will also pass on the benefits of his experience to younger lads in the team including Tom Curwen who has stepped up from the amateur ranks. Kris Coward said "I'm happy and excited to have signed for the club for my 10th year at the club. I couldn't imagine playing anywhere else and I hope that having played over 200 games in the Championship I can pass on my experience to the younger players and the lads stepping up from amateur level. I’m looking forward to working with Dave Clark and a new group of players . We'll gel in pre season and build a great platform for an enjoyable season

DavidM
probably plenty did , some have gone , some stayed under a new start and I guess we are trying to woo back a few . Kris is a big body who'll do ok at this level , but we do need a sprinkling of quality as well as bodies
Anonymouse
who will pay the bill for a sprinkling of quality and how do you get them to play in Champ 1 ? we have a handful of re-signings well capable at this level , with several playing well below their level , a good start for a rebuild long term plan . DavidM
Yes I would say the two brothers and Ritson are stand out quality . Either way we've still a lot of spade work to do on our squad so we'll see what comes out in the wash from now . There's a few talented squads out there . I guess a lot is down to expectations this year , and I'm not sure we've heard that defined yet . Will be a bit of a trip into the unknown next year in a few ways , and seeing what we've unearthed from these young lads willl be interesting in itself
Anonymouse
i think theres callum playing below his level. Not sure who else. I'd agree with others posting and think thats a little harsh on Brett and Tee who all stood out in the games against the best squads the championship threw against Town over the seasons , Mossop , Doran and Forber too could bolster some teams in the league above as squad players given proper use and coaching . gillmeister
Both Phillips brothers, Mossop, Tee, a Fully fit Szostak are all championship quality, Give it six games and everyone will say that about conor Fitzsimons also. Forber and Doran can be very good too hopefully consistently so in this league Forget Chuck and Chad I am the real legend killer
town4me
I take it the new signings are on 2 year deals to reflect on this rebuilding approach. I am personally on board with the rebuilding thing but should the barrow based lads take well to the semi pro game it will be highly likely that barrow will show an intetest in them. Also if the jam keep their squad fit this season there's a good chance there will be an opportunity to play championship RL in west cumbria the following season. Onreport
Maybe you didn't see Brett P against the Kiwis? Absolutely, have to say I thought Brett was quiet this season (by his usual standards, like few more) but he certainly showed what he can do against a very good Kiwi pack. Certainly didn't look out of place at that level.

wonky
Maybe you didn't see Brett P against the Kiwis?brett was good against the kiwis and has been great for us but last season was his worst by quite a distance. A 20 minute spell cant change that, hopefully the old brett is back next season. the futures bright, the futures blue and white
