With his full time playing budget he really should have been challenging Hull KR for top spot and also have been in with a shout of promotion and although they have run SL sides close when it comes to the end of the season you will have 3 SL teams that look like they have under achieved in the 8's and London will still really not be near them. I bet most coaches could have "achieved" what he has achieved with their spending power.

He might have a full time playing budget but Eliot Kear, Rhys Evans, Jarrod Sammut, Kieron Dixon, Jay Pitts, Reece Williams and William Barthau are still Eliot Kear, Rhys Evans, Jarrod Sammut, Kieron Dixon, Jay Pitts, Reece Williams and William Barthau no matter how many times a week they train and condition.

They would be rock bottom of SL with that squad 100%. He is doing a fine job and the S8s are showing that. He isn't the only one but he still is a good coach.

Haven't hull kr got a full time squad as well.

The Broncos seem to have become credible again and imho that is a major achievement. I'm not sure that it's necessarily all down to Henderson, but he deserves more credit than you're giving him.

Maguire is a non-starter it would seem, so I'd be quite happy seeing how Brennan could do based on the raps he's been getting in the Aussie press over the last couple of years.   Don't really know that much about him but since there are no decent home-grown coaches currently available he'll be worth a punt.

We have some class individuals (Clarke, Hill, Ratchford et al) so as long as Brennan or a similar coach can get the whole squad working for each other and doing the rugby basics right then we might see some of that class shine through.

Agree that Henderson has got the best of those players.

With the notable exception of Rhys Evans who is, er, a Warrington player who has signed for Leigh for 2018. I did see him in the Trailfinders bar once, though.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Rhys Evans is Rhys Evans, except when he is Ben Evans.... ;)

Regarding the Brennan rumour, the following article is quite encouraging.   Warrington seem to produce quite a few young players with good raw talent that doesn't seem to get developed, and then they just fizzle away after promising starts.

Maybe Brennan is the man to change that:

I meant Ben Evans lol? I'm confused myself now.

Strong rumours that Pay has got the job reflected in the odds at the bookies.   I know that he's spent time with Catalans so maybe that makes him a lower risk appointment and less likely to up sticks when the family gets homesick?

Think he's a tough cookie just like in his playing days and has plenty of experience with the juniors which may benefit Patton, Livett et al.

I wonder how difficult it will be to build a squad for next season.   The way I see it we've been unable to replace the major losses as players can't commit when they are not sure the club will be in Super League.   Hopefully with our place confirmed we can at least get a half-back on board in the mould of Gidley.

No it's a couple of quotes in the last month from good sources.

I've heard that too but I've seen enough to suggest he'd be a steady half-back.   Excellent positional kicker and looks good when he's prepared to take the line on. I don't think Smith rated him that highly as he got dropped quite a bit and criticised openly.   Maybe that was to reign him in a bit in case he got too confident, as I never saw Brown dropped or criticised.

Patton is no George Williams but he can be class on his day, and would go well with an unpredictable maverick alongside him in the halves I think.   But then we'd need a Gidley/Hodgson style level head somewhere else on the park.

Very strong rumours he is on his way to Salford.

Well, looks like Dean Pay is on his way.   He's specialises in defence and discipline and hopefully will put a bit of steel into our defence and resilience.

Interstingly, there's finally an in-depth interview with Smith available to watch.   He even stated himself that he doesn't think we've been great the last couple couple of years, and even last year the difference was the brilliance of Sandow and Currie...   can't argue with that.   He acknowledges our style has changed and the decline is due to the way the team has evolved or developed.   He doesn't have a reason why that's happened.

Wish him all the best but it's clear we now need a no-excuses disciplinarian to toughen us up, and maybe we can progress from here.

Thanks for the cups Tony.   A place in the hall of fame awaits.
