Aussie try in the Men's 40s final vs Ireland. Final play after the half-time hooter. They were an unbelievably good side.

I expect most of them grew up playing RL so have much higher skill levels than other countries

You're not kidding!!

One of their players was Michael Buettner, who played for Australia, NSW Origin, North Sydney, Parramatta and Wests Tigers!!!

Think it's more than skill levels. Saw a number of plays, some try-scoring, where an Aussie dummy-half took the marker out thus creating a 3-on-2 or 2-on-1. If the marker forces the dummy-half to pass behind the gain-line those become 2-on-2, 1-on-1.

The British and Irish dummy-halves just routinely got the ball away from the ruck. No attempt to engage or beat the marker.

True but also likely learned from playing RL from a young age

In the 40s, I found the Aussie ‘pack’ - left rover, left middle, right middle, right rover - played as a unit that were devastatingly effective at moving us around one way then back the other, sucking in defenders, then leaving a 3v2 or 3v1 on the outside for the links/wings to score.

Most other teams played one side of the ruck rather than with a connected ‘pack’ moving both ways.

Interesting move from England Touch...

Seems there are plans to commercialise the game and bring in the business sector.

Promoting touch as a team building, social sport might just work.

Fancy a game of touch in Cambs or Lincs? DM me

I've lost touch as regards who's who in this saga.

Just remind me - Are England Touch the Touch People's Front or the People's Front of Touch?

All looks a bit dark side.

The Dolphins introducing the uninitiated.

Introducing new players to the game through League Tag has already been successful.

“We have been able to create some really good relationships with local leagues, schools and clubs within the Wide Bay region,” said Blair.

Our League Tag days are really popular for the sport for those looking at getting into the game, and it is usually the first steps for them.

“The idea was that we would put in a Dolphins League Tag to get people involved on Friday afternoons as part of their school sport.

“There were five schools involved and 24 teams across boys, girls and mixed teams and they played over five weeks.”

Does anyone on the forum have any views, ideas or experience in launching coroporate rugby?

We see an opportunity to grow our social touch playing pool by running corporate sessions for local businesses and getting them friendlies and in our summer league.

This will get them networking and offer team building experience whilst we get the chance to nab the best players and run them through our pathway.

Just wanted to understand if this had been tried and what the pitfalls might be.

There’s corporate tag rugby in London. https://www.trytagrugby.com/news/corporate-challenge-london-2023-review/

And a Property League

https://www.trytagrugby.com/play/about-our-leagues/property-league/

I’d ask there for tips. Will Shepherd is a good guy.

Genuinely get on board with this if you are anywhere near it. Played on Leeds for a few years, now not living near a league and miss it both as a sport and for social.

Sorry mate had to laugh, I`m about an hour and a half from Newcastle, but not the Newcastle you`re thinking of. Hope you find something a bit closer to home anyway. 👍

Thanks. Think a local club is running touch, but it seems a bit formalised, part of a regional league, and I always liked that with tag there was a league set up on site, in one case 4 minutes from home, and you could form a team with mates or sign up as individual and meet new people. Also no need to train, be a certain standard to get picked for match time, travel to away games on a weekend. I think I was a bit spoilt with tag, just seemed very easy and inclusive, enjoyable for all but the absolute extremes. Anyone who could just about jog and catch a ball occasionally, and wasn't a professional rugby player wanting something at that level would have fitted in.

Out of interest. Guess you mean Aus. Have you got leagues near you? Is it an urban thing there like here? Something run through the clubs or mainly done informally?
