Aussie try in the Men's 40s final vs Ireland. Final play after the half-time hooter. They were an unbelievably good side.

I expect most of them grew up playing RL so have much higher skill levels than other countries

You're not kidding!!

One of their players was Michael Buettner, who played for Australia, NSW Origin, North Sydney, Parramatta and Wests Tigers!!!

Think it's more than skill levels. Saw a number of plays, some try-scoring, where an Aussie dummy-half took the marker out thus creating a 3-on-2 or 2-on-1. If the marker forces the dummy-half to pass behind the gain-line those become 2-on-2, 1-on-1.

The British and Irish dummy-halves just routinely got the ball away from the ruck. No attempt to engage or beat the marker.

True but also likely learned from playing RL from a young age

In the 40s, I found the Aussie ‘pack’ - left rover, left middle, right middle, right rover - played as a unit that were devastatingly effective at moving us around one way then back the other, sucking in defenders, then leaving a 3v2 or 3v1 on the outside for the links/wings to score.

Most other teams played one side of the ruck rather than with a connected ‘pack’ moving both ways.

Interesting move from England Touch...

Seems there are plans to commercialise the game and bring in the business sector.

Promoting touch as a team building, social sport might just work.

I've lost touch as regards who's who in this saga.

Just remind me - Are England Touch the Touch People's Front or the People's Front of Touch?

All looks a bit dark side.

The Dolphins introducing the uninitiated.

Introducing new players to the game through League Tag has already been successful.

“We have been able to create some really good relationships with local leagues, schools and clubs within the Wide Bay region,” said Blair.

Our League Tag days are really popular for the sport for those looking at getting into the game, and it is usually the first steps for them.

“The idea was that we would put in a Dolphins League Tag to get people involved on Friday afternoons as part of their school sport.

“There were five schools involved and 24 teams across boys, girls and mixed teams and they played over five weeks.”

Does anyone on the forum have any views, ideas or experience in launching coroporate rugby?

We see an opportunity to grow our social touch playing pool by running corporate sessions for local businesses and getting them friendlies and in our summer league.

This will get them networking and offer team building experience whilst we get the chance to nab the best players and run them through our pathway.

Just wanted to understand if this had been tried and what the pitfalls might be.

There’s corporate tag rugby in London. https://www.trytagrugby.com/news/corporate-challenge-london-2023-review/

And a Property League

https://www.trytagrugby.com/play/about-our-leagues/property-league/

I’d ask there for tips. Will Shepherd is a good guy.

Genuinely get on board with this if you are anywhere near it. Played on Leeds for a few years, now not living near a league and miss it both as a sport and for social.

Sorry mate had to laugh, I`m about an hour and a half from Newcastle, but not the Newcastle you`re thinking of. Hope you find something a bit closer to home anyway. 👍

Thanks. Think a local club is running touch, but it seems a bit formalised, part of a regional league, and I always liked that with tag there was a league set up on site, in one case 4 minutes from home, and you could form a team with mates or sign up as individual and meet new people. Also no need to train, be a certain standard to get picked for match time, travel to away games on a weekend. I think I was a bit spoilt with tag, just seemed very easy and inclusive, enjoyable for all but the absolute extremes. Anyone who could just about jog and catch a ball occasionally, and wasn't a professional rugby player wanting something at that level would have fitted in.

Out of interest. Guess you mean Aus. Have you got leagues near you? Is it an urban thing there like here? Something run through the clubs or mainly done informally?

https://www.englandtouch.org.uk/news/posts/2024/july/record-medal-haul-for-england-at-record-breaking-touch-world-cup/

I thought it was worth a post on the recent world cup of Touch Rugby held earlier this month in Nottingham.

Hundreds of teams and the mixed open final was a brilliant game of rugby whatever code you might follow.

There was an article in Forty20 from the England touch media officer but not much since...

Went down on the Saturday to watch and was a brilliant event. Just like rugby league the Aussies are a different level.

Was great seeing so many cultures coming together with for the event with a personal highlight watching Cook Islands vs Scotland with the whole Cook Islands contingent who weren’t playing at the end of the field cheering on playing instruments. This did include a nice little beat followed by a “Thank you Ref” whenever Scotland got a penalty decision against them.

Every point you blokes make are legitimate reasons why this version of the sport should be considered part of the Rugby League family.

Like it or not RL is a physically demanding sport where not everyone can participate in the full contact version, it should not reduce their right to participate in a fully fledged and affiliated version of the sport .

What other business would let their product be sold under a different name and not take advantage of having developed that product. Because that is what we are effectively doing by not reaping the rewards of a very popular offshoot of our product.

@Worzel this has been a favourite topic of mine since in the early nineties when I stood on a sporting field in the eastern suburbs of Sydney on a weekday afternoon and witnessed literally hundreds of people playing social touch Rugby League and thought to myself the NRL should be all over this.

It has taken twenty years but it seems now the penny has finally dropped with our games hierarchy regularly referring to the three versions of the game.

Yes, it's great. Touch is so very obviously rugby league it was ridiculous. I'm sure people who play 5-a-side football think they're playing football, and not some new sport

The NRL really stepping up the investment in this now, with the appointing of people with outstanding sports administrative and corporate experience to run the organisation.

Touch Football Australia announces new leadership.

Following an extensive and independently managed nationwide recruitment process, TFA is pleased to announce Marcus Ashcroft as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective March 17, 2025. The highly competitive search, conducted by Sportspeople Recruitment, attracted over 100 high-calibre applicants from across the country.

TFA’s long-standing partnership with the NRL is set to reach new heights, with the NRL committing its largest-ever investment in Touch Football.

Further cementing its commitment to the sport, the NRL has publicly backed Touch Football’s bid for Olympic inclusion at Brisbane 2032.

The alignment between TFA and the NRL has never been stronger, and this renewed investment and strategic partnership mark a significant milestone for the future of Touch Football.

With hundreds of thousands of participants across the country and in traditionally non-League states Touch is a indispensable way of breaking into new markets and bringing new fans and participants to the game.
