Lviv's home ground.

Which is just over 1 000km away from Legion's home ground. At least twelve hours if they went by coach.

Exactly, i have been, may be even a bit longer, these guys do a lot of travelling just to play.

I can see frustration creeping in now for Legion. Despite leading, I think they feel a bit embarrassed, they are used to thumping teams, they won a grand final 124-0 a few years ago.

It is a pretty good game, ball certainly getting some air. Fair amount of building rubble dumped around the sidelines though.

Looks like their complex is being built out of the side of a mountain.......

Three cardings after that last punch-up.

Full Time - Lviv 20:46 Kharkiv. Closer than some previous finals from what people have posted here.

Impressive-looking trophy too.

Looking on social media, seems like there's been a fair bit going on. The same two clubs contested the national youth final last week and Lvov have managed to get a local tv channel to do a report on them. The West Tigers vs Kiev 3rd place game was played before the GF, and is also on youtube.

This one?

Yep, that is the one.

I enjoyed that. Decent standard of RL, bits of good attacking flair, quality stream and a biff to top it all off, what more could you want in a game? 😉

I thought the ref was very good, but just took a bit too long with some decisions instead of getting on with it.

*Wests Giants.

Yes most Ukraine clubs now are linked with (and named after) SL clubs, plus one that is linked with York City Knights. Not exactly sure what these links involve, but Lviv were wearing old Cas jerseys, so even just donating old equipment is a good start, but I am hoping there is a bit more to it than that.

Nice central location and just off a main road.

Enjoyed the game. And the rather attractive photographer who was prowling the touchline too.

Totally agree.

Good to watch. Ref and his assistants impressive ( and needed ) at this level.  Maybe took his time to quiet it down.

Would not pick a fight with these guys. They love  the tough stuff which is so much part of our game. but plenty of skills still on offer. Many in that match are level 3/ 4 here  and could even get to 2 if they had pro coaching  input.

Time for OurLeague to put this type of coverage ( excellent from the Ukraine by the way ) together into one offering worldwide  rather than rely on U Tube ? Carpet coverage from  the Pacific Islands   Federation Europe  Africa   et al ( we play at this level everywhere ) would certainly sell  a subscription  at least to me and  help fund development everywhere.

Thoughts ?

Yeah I was impressed by the officiating, professionalism and the level of respect, which can often be missing in Eastern European (and French) games.

My only criticism is the length of time to make decisions, as you pointed out...........slowed the game down too much.

A good, entertaining game all in

Absolutely, I have watched a bit of the Western Oz RL and the Northern Territory RL lately and saw a bit of the PNG comp earlier in the year, all these comps are good enough to have wider coverage. A platform like OurLeague could bundle these an other comps and sell through subscriptions. I don`t think we don`t take enough advantage of how widely our game is played and especially given the level it is played at these days.

Just watched the first 15 minutes that I missed on Saturday. Apart from my bete noire of the non-PTB, I agree with these assessments of the officials.

It`s actually wonderfully refreshing to see the ball come loose and the ref play on unless there`s good reason not to. So that the players compete for the ball, rather than stand there looking at it, and the laws of the game and physics determine possession rather than the guesswork of officials.

In Aus and NZ, they`ve reached a point where every time the ball hits the deck, the ref automatically blows the whistle, then debates with the Touch Judge what the call will be. This is completely the wrong way round. What they currently regard as a knock-on often has no connection with a law designed to prevent the ball being propelled in a forward direction. Sometimes a player slides in behind a loose ball on the ground facing their own goal-line, and if it moves a bit they still call a knock-on.

I`m guessing the Ukrainian ref comes from RU, which in the above context at least, is a good thing.

Has the international federation got any money? £20k a year would be a great wage in the Ukraine and Serbia, surely the game can afford development officers in these areas?

That`s what World Cups are meant for, I dream of the day when the RLWC can make the 10`s of millions like `you know who`s` WC and we can have properly funded Development Officers and assistance where ever the game is trying to grow and we can promote the game, subsidise travel for Internationals for smaller Nations and run RL programmes to develop the game. Hopefully one day Phil.

You will be glad to know, that both Serbia and Ukraine are full IRL members, so receive approx. $AUD25,000 per year.  So I believe they both have at least one full-time staff member over there.  It is affiliate members that receive considerably less, then observers, I believe, get nothing.

Where would they come from though? I doubt many people from the UK or Australia would be enticed by a £20k wage.

They don't have to come from anywhere. There are coaches, referees and players in both Serbia and the Ukraine who I'm sure would be capable.
