It’s seeded in the same way the Challenge Cup is with different levels entering at different times. I believe the there’s even a qualifying competition for clubs to play the first round proper

Quite.

One of these teams you refer to could potentially win through a couple of rounds anyway. A few years ago, look how close Siddal came to knocking out Toronto.

Siddal are a very good amateur club though. There are teams in the first round draw that Siddal would beat by 90 points.

There is a certain romance to seeing an amateur club getting a glamour tie against Wigan or Leeds or Hull, but in reality they are fairly pointless games. The SL club would play their under 18s and still win by 60 plus. The injury concern is justified too. A national conference club could hold their own to an extent, but further down the tree you have guys playing that just don't belong on the same field as elite athletes.

It’s not compulsory for those teams to enter the Challenge Cup.

No, but you can't wait to see who you draw before you decide whether or not to enter.

Some fair points regarding the standard of League 1 / Amateur Clubs. So why not have a round or two before the SL and Championship sides join in at the same stage, the last 32? Then the better League 1 / Amateur Clubs will be left in?

Amateur clubs already play preliminary rounds to reach the first round,so they are hardly the Dog & Gun pub X111.

Get the Superleague teams in then, most amateur clubs/players/supporters would love to draw a Superleague team,it might even restore some of the comps long lost magic.

I’d be interested to know how many people think the lack of magic is down to Wigan Warriors drawing Salford instead of Hammersmith Hills Hoists.

To me, the bigger question isn’t even the potential of an amateur team facing a SL team and more that there are even relatively few SL v Championship ties these days. I remember Wigan selling out their allocation in minutes when they drew Barrow away in 2009ish.

evidence from most of the amateur games i have seen in recent years bolster some peoples fears - a lot of SL  players could get very badly hurt and injured.

see you later undertaker - in a while necrophile
