like i said in another thread- the bulldogs persistence to stick with players like Hopoate is the reason they are nailed to the foot of the nrl, have watched most dogs games over the last 3 years and lately its you hardly notice he has been playing- a steady player maybe at best . give our youngsters a chance instead of buying over the hill over rated (vastly over rated in this case) aussies.

How do you come to the conclusion that Hopoate is vastly over rated when everyone seems to think he is rubbish?

You do realise he won Bulldogs player of the year in 2019? https://www.bulldogs.com.au/news/2019/09/12/hopoate-claims-dr-george-peponis-bulldogs-player-of-the-year/

there’s no denying he’s not performed this year but there are 100s of reasons why that might be. It feels like a classic things have just gone stale for him and a new environment will do him the world of good - especially as he’s worked with Woolf before (something he emphasised in his Saints interview). If Woolf can get the best out of him, he’s going to be very good for us and probably somewhere between Naiqama 2018 and Naiqama 2021 (and closer to the former). It’s just not seen as “exciting” as it’s an incremental improvement compared to the revolution Naiqama was for us.

Saints also need a bit of utility in our signings this year as a safety net for Welsby and Simm, and in Hopoate and Lussick we seem to have done that whilst still adding to the team, which is great recruitment all round. Just a prop and a backrower to go after that!

theres more chance of me setting an asbestos mat on fire by rubbing 2 carrots together than Hopoate setting SL on fire from what I have seen of him, terrible signing

I know Bono and he knows Ono and she knows Enos phone goes thus

He’s a solid NRL player so hardly a terrible signing given that the player he’s replacing was in the same category.

Hopoate also played for Tonga in 2019 in both their defeat of Great Britain and the first time ever that Australia were beaten by a tier 2 nation.

Who knows if he will star in Super League as it is not a foregone conclusion that any player will... but he has the pedigree.

Hopoate can get out to the huge Mormon community in St Helens and get them down to the TWS.

Well he's not going to be far from the Northern UK headquarters in Chorley so that may well have been a factor in his decision to come over. I'm just down the road and will look out for him, shouldn't be too hard to spot amongst the skinnny American teenage lads who come over and wander the local streets undertaking futile missionary work.

Joey Lussick apparently on his way as well:

Can't imagine he'd be coming to play back up hooker so Roby retiring perhaps?

Roby has been playing really well the last few games, but i would sooner if he hung up his boots at the end of the season. He has been an amazing player for Saints id even class him as a better all round player than Cunningham. I just hope he never takes up coaching like KC.
