Australia 85 for 4. Head and Marsh batting. :kolobok_cool:

Quite a turnaround.....

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Appalling bowling this afternoon. Yes, Marsh has done well, but barely a ball bowled on a good length to trouble him. All half volleys and short balls.

And Ali looks completely ineffective.

I agree . Lights on , cloud cover and basics required . I understand short ball tactics to a player but not every ball , it’s tedious and predictable . And basically it was longhops and lots of balls for whacking . I don’t get why they love Ali so much . They seem to have forgot his last couple of years as a test player , then brought him back without playing a first class game for ages .

Probably would have taken 249-7 at the start of the day.  But feels 50+ above where they could have been.

Wood gets his five-for and Australia are all out for 263.

He averaged 90.5mph across the innings. Who'd be a tail-ender?

The bizarre thing with Ali, is not only has he barely played red ball cricket, he rarely even bowls his full set of overs in white ball cricket now. His selection and the decision to give Bairstow the gloves are seemingly based on performances about 5 or 6 years ago, if not longer.

In both cases, and I don't think is a coincidence, they are both incredibly loyal team players who will do a job they are given to their best even if it isn't the right one for them really to be doing.

Game evenly balanced at the end of day 2, England need to get a lead.

A lot of justified praise for Mark Wood, but Chris Woakes bagged three wickets and another two chances dropped and he can bat.

At the end of the series, people may think in a series decided by fine margins,  if only:

Foakes had been keeper - Fans of Johnny B with the gloves like myself, are wiping te egg off their face, though it is fair to point out that Foakes is not infallable. I was at Kent v Surrey in the championship and Foakes dropped Jordan Cox on 30 and he went on to add another hundred. People often become better players through being out of the team.

England had not conceded so many extras and taken wickets with no balls. England are way ahead when it comes to extras (sundries down under) and in a close series  this has been a major contributing factor in defeat.

If Woakes had played instead of Robinson. Robinson is unfit and not bowled well this series. With Stokes not bowling except in dire emergency, this could be the swing factor in this game. Chris Woakes in England (and to a degree in New Zealand) acnm get the ball to move and is a batsman who has played big lower order innings at this level. Would he not have been a better bet with ball and bat?

Froim Bazball to the nearly men ?

I don't think there's any doubting their attitudes, but in my opinion, they are poor selections.

When was the last time Bairstow kept wicket regularly, in any format? To give him the gloves against the best test team in the world, on flat pitches where chances will be at a premium, was very foolish. And costly. Especially when you consider how good he was as a specialist batter.

Moeen Ali has been a very good player for England, but he's retired from test cricket, barely played any red ball cricket and hardly ever bowls at all now. To go from that to being front line test spinner is a big ask. I'd back both Dawson and Ahmed to be more effective with both bat and ball.

They'd be very good selections in 2016. Not so much 2023.

Well that was very accommodating from Moeen there

He's seen the forecast and thinks it's only fair for Australia to be able to get a result today.
