OT looked great yesterday

Was worried it would be rubbish as it was 2021 when we went to the last Cats final

It just shows you how different people are. My friend who went told me it was one of his most enjoyable ones in terms of atmosphere. Mind, he was sat in among the Catalan fans.

Manchester centre is such a grim and grimy city....I find it depressing ....we avoid it when we are up for OT ....contrast to other northern city centres like Chester, Leeds or York which are fantastic

I find Mancs slightly big headed and tbh they can annoy me (the ones I know or have met anyway) but I don't think Manchester centre is much different than Leeds, probably more going on if anything.

Yes - crowd was excellent, even with the mother and child behind me swearing all game.

Clearly, despite reports otherwise, there is an element of people who will go to an RL final as an event even without a team in the game.

I'm going to Manchester for the first time proper on Thursday. Never had an actual visit there, transited through but not actual boots on the ground so to speak. I'm not gonna be going into the middle too much though, just train to Victoria, walk out of there and into the cathedral which is basically across the road. Into the National Football Museum which is next door. Round the corner to the tram stop, tram to the Imperial War Museum, walk across the bridge to Media City to get a tram from there to Piccadilly. Seeing everything I want to see without going into the middle! Sorted! 😁

I had a knucklehead behind me whose entire match vocabulary was:

’wiiiiigan’

’smash ‘im’

’boo’ (for the two Catalans head injuries, their penalty kick and their medal presentation)

But, that aside, I thought the Wigan numbers were impressive and the Catalans fans created an excellent pre-match atmosphere.

Manchester is an amazing city, but I suppose it's always what you are looking for in a city.

I do think Piccadilly Gardens (very close to the Piccadilly station) creates a poor impression and is not somewhere to hang around especially at night.

If I were Manchester I would keep trying to find something that works in that area (I know they’ve tried).

Personally I think Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle are all great if you know where to go - Spinningfields being a good example of how you can rejuvenate an area.

The same is probably true of all big cities.

Yes - Pie support was amazing really.

It would be interesting no know, just how many who complain on here about attendances actually went to the final.

Yup.

Round trip from Kent with a stayover with the missus. Excellent day out.

Same for Tonga tests.

I wouldn't say Manchester is a dump - but I find University towns deeply unappealing.

A bit of that is an age thing and a bit I don't want to spend a night out with idiots.

There’s plenty of nice places to go in Manchester - it’s constantly being developed.  Ancoats for instance has had a complete facelift over the past few years

I don't do too much complaining about attendances but I must say I do hate this point when it's offered. Some of us would love to go to the GF every year, and I would if I won the lottery, but some of us come from working class, Northern cities and are very poor to the point where I'm currently getting ready to leave work and am trying to think where the cheapest place to buy a block of cheese is round here and whether I can afford another pack of jacket spuds as well.

It's all horrid ....Leeds looks more new and shiney ...glass and steel instead of sooty red bricks

I agree which is why it's even possible it could be true ...though I suspect not

Some conspiracy theories are true mate.

state of origin casts a huge shadow over the international game and especially the pacific island boys who make up a large percentage of the players in the NRL these days which is only going to grow year on year.
