I’ve thought the same about the main tour. The difference between the two comps is vast much more so than the gap between the NRL & the men’s super league

The NRL puts up full match replays the day after. The 2023 U19 women's game is up, and I think it was also up the day after, so this year's will probably be the same.

I think the UK has access too? eg https://www.nrl.com/watch/matches/?competition=184&round=1&season=2023&subType=Full+Match+Replay

Would be even better than streaming live, you can watch it at your preferred time, and replay or skip as you want.

"Watch NRL" don't appear to be streaming, so won't be able to view live (legally) in the UK.

Like the last two years, the game is on 9Gem and Fox League. Full match should subsequently be available on the NRL site.

No Thursday night NRL. Hence the boys under-19s Origin is on the main 9 channel and Fox League. Level of prominence we can only dream about.

Indeed. I was also hinting at a wider point. Namely, whether our players and coaches are fully conversant with standards in Oz. English RL has historically tended to exist in a bubble. England Women were hopelessly underprepared for the 2017 World Cup. Everybody looked shell-shocked. Clearly gone out there with little idea of what to expect.

Read an Australian interview with Georgia Hale in which she said some of the players at Leeds follow NRLW. So maybe things have changed?

Looks as though Elisa Akpa picked up a shoulder injury. Big Loss for the French. Her club is listed as Wests Tigers in the NSW Premiership. Hope she's okay for the start of their season next week.

Elisa didn't play in the Tigers narrow defeat to the Sharks.

Generally competitive score-lines in the first round of NSWRL Premiership. One exception was Magpies 36 Dragons 0. Noticed two PNG Orchids in the Wenty line-up - Belinda Gwasamun and Gloria Kaupa. Both good players. Belinda is potential NRLW material.

The other squads include yet more names from NZ RL. Amazing the Auckland RL can still run a comp given the ongoing exodus across the ditch.

Disappointed with Huddersfield for that result but happy for Barrow and Amanda Wilkinson, what a job she is doing there.

Poor old Warrington have over 10 players unavailable at the moment so they are struggling.

Cant wait to see how York’s new look squad goes in the coming weeks.

Routine win for York over Fev 62-0 on Sunday (I missed this match). Four teenagers in the Valkyrie team - 17yo's Izzy Brennan and Evie Sexton, Jess Sharp and new French recruit Mahault Pommier.

Tane Jane Stanley converted nine from eleven efforts off the tee.

I think Hudds might play Fev at the weekend as well which is now an interesting clash. I hear there has been rumblings of discontent amongst players with a number ready to leave, Sundays defeat to Barrow won't have helped and might just give Fev a chance.

Has anybody any idea of what the structure is going to be next season? You feel Leigh have to be in there but is there enough players to sustain 3 Super League clubs in that area?

I'd hope a Cardiff or London in there!

This might be the result of a fever dream, but I thought there was due to be a play-off match between the winners of the Championship and Southern League, for the right to play the bottom Super League team, in the Women's RL equivalent to the Million Pound Game.......

Exactly what I was led to believe.

The motivation is to give everyone outside the heartlands a route into WSL. Assumes that London or Cardiff would be able to field reasonably competitive teams through a full season. Seems rather unrealistic, given all their players (AFAIK) are primarily committed to Union.

Better in my view for these two clubs to continue developing via games in the CC group stage, in addition to the Southern comp.

Ive just checked and this is indeed the case. The only thing that is not mentioned is if the winner of the Championships below Super League will be decided by been top of the league or by play offs like has happened previously.

I would have to agree with UP as well regards to the southern competition and this should be allowed to grow first as it does not feel fair the winner of a 4 team competition having a shot at the very top of the game. I would suggest the top team in the southern championship been given a spot in the northern championship but there simply is not the money in the game to make that sort of travel every other week viable.

The modern game is tough for offloaders. Coaches don’t really like it and fans always criticise when it goes wrong. The modern obsession with field position has almost destroyed the art

Channy got one away yesterday and I think three in the semi-final, but you’re right, she doesn’t offload as much.

Further thought on this subject, prompted by the number of times I've recently seen instances of the following -

Ball-carrier hits and spins, tacklers slip off the ball, hands are free, dummy-half is stood a metre behind, simple pop pass is on. Ref quite rightly doesn't call Held, he's giving her every chance to offload, but the solitary thought on her mind is to get the ball to ground and play it.

There is a dearth of second-phase in WSL. We hardly ever see late offloads attempted. It's almost as though some players don't realize they're allowed to pass out of the tackle once their momentum is halted. Or that the need to hang on to the ball at all costs has been drilled into them.

Channy is the only exception I can think of among the top teams.

Rhiannion Marshall also has an off-load game.

When I was thinking of another well-known player to possibly cite, she was the one who came to mind. How much game-time has she had this year though?

Seen a few hints too that Jas Bell wants to develop more of an offload game. As mentioned on a previous page, the coach has to provide the confidence.

I think it’s great that clubs employ some players such as Georgia so to be honest they are almost full time professionals.

It would be interesting to see who else is employed by their club, I know Jodie Cunningham is and possibly Rachel Thompson.

I think there is one or two others as well.

Castleford 16 Hull KR 14

First win in the Championship for Cas. They took some fearful hammerings earlier in the year. Reverse fixture finished Hull KR 70 Castleford 8. Don't think the Cas squad has changed much in the intervening period. Lot of young players. Less sure about the Rovers line-up.

Id heard that both Hull teams having been struggling to put a team on the pitch but that is a shocker. Not heard where the players have gone or if its just injuries though. It might just give Cas a fighting chance of staying up though but whoever comes up you feel will add to that Championship as League 1 looks a great competition and even though Widnes are low down the league they may be dark horses having just beaten Illingworth in the cup semi final followed by Thatto in the final.
