No idea to be honest but the links between Scotland and Newcastle are strong,

Though good to see this fixture on the cards. Hopefully next year we can get Wales involved and some kind of Celtic cup. Could involve the French domestic side with The Netherlands.
If Euro rugby get their act together the likes of Serbia, Czech Republic, Greece, Norway, Germany could playoff for a right to join the Celtic setup Winner playing off against the bottom club etc

I'm one of these people who have moaned about the lack of international rugby league, so this news is welcome. We have to re-start from somewhere and if that means Scotland v Ireland in Gateshead, then so be it!

I'll more than likely go along and support it.

Sorry but it's time to stop sanctioning full international matches in 3rd countries. Play them at home for God's sake!

As said above although not ideal at least it’s happening. Hopefully this can me built on and they can start playing at home in the future

Yes it's happening which is great but it shouldn't be an aspiration to play your international games at home!

I agree but maybe that’s not viable for them at the moment. It probably is an aspiration and hopefully they’ll start playing in Scotland on a regular basis once they get playing regularly

Yeah and I don't want to sound harsh but if as a country you can't play your home games at home then they may as well just give up. This is a country that played at the last world cup!

I don’t think they need to give up. They just red to rebuild and increase the amount of players and clubs domestically as well as building the profile of their national team.
Playing international games on a regular basis and building up the domestic scene is the right way to go.
I do agree that it would be much more beneficial if they can start to play their internationals in Scotland though

The World Cup is off, then.

Genuinely puzzled as to how it's that much cheaper to play in Gateshead than Glasgow.

Because the majority of their players and staff are England based so their squad has less distance to travel. Sad but true

But that's sort of what I mean. Assume and even split between those being in Lancs and Yorks, and there's really not much difference between Glasgow and Newcastle in terms of reach and (presumably) price.

It's probably as simple as slightly cheaper stadium charge or similar, or maybe hotels were £10 per night cheaper.

Absolute rubbish.

Maybe no hotel costs ie. Players can all travel there and back on the same day but they'd need an overnight stay in Scotland. Whatever the reason I don't think it can be justified if you want to be taken seriously internationally.

I can understand why using Gateshead makes partial sense - given the Newcastle Thunder aspect - but at some point if you're going to commit to having a Scotland team, you've got to build up support for it by playing matches in Scotland.

The pitch is already marked out and the posts up in Gateshead.

Scotland have been playing for years. They've played plenty of games in Scotland, with some ok sized and appreciative crowds. There is no excuse for not playing any games in Scotland (or Ireland)

I can see you feel strongly about this, Dave. You need to do something about it. Perhaps a stiff letter to the Scotsman.

Or, the most likely alternative is to just go off and watch other international sport, which is what many people do when their needs are not met.

Ireland  haven't  played at home since 2019.

Covid explains a lot of things.

The Irish  Federation  must have virtually  no people  in it.Tweets and Facebook  are virtually  free.  Virtually  no promotion  of these games.

I'd go, as it's relatively local for me, but it clashes with England v Samoa doesn't it?
