  2. Yeah we have a very close relationship with Scotland RL, we have hosted U16 development days for the scotland academy side in the past and will continue to work closely with Scotland RL We can’t wait to host them this year

  3. Might as well be blunt. I don`t even begin to comprehend the appeal of Doctor Who or anything similar. Beyond the theme tune and the assistant totty. However, I did watch it as an impressionable infant, and I`m pretty sure "The Green Death" is the one with the giant maggots. One episode was experienced while trying to eat a bowl of mandarin orange segments. Wasn`t able to finish them, and to this day even the thought fills me with nausea. They were previously my favourite dessert. The power of association is amazing. The series from that era that really creeped out my young mind was "The Sea Devils". Not just the freaky monsters, but the accompanying Radiophonic Workshop weirdness.

  5. They aren't far away from me. I'm tempted to send them an email to find out a bit more. I haven't played since my teens but if they are looking for players I wouldn't mind a run out at a low standard on a casual basis.

  6. .I understand your points John, maybe I'm just an old fogey, who BTW is a fan of 70's/80's tv generally, but a lot of us older fans have a problem with the current version of the show. The imagination going into the stories are great, the fx terrific, the preachiness is a tad OTT but of course the original show had this sort of political undercurrents in stories such as Green Death, Invasion of the Dinosaurs, and Monster of Peladon, but the story was the main thing, the message was not all consuming, but this isn't the issue . The characterisation of The Doctor has altered drastically, gone are the days of the mysterious and unknown traveller turning up on various planets, helping out with companions in awe of the adventures they were having. Now the Doctor is the saviour of the Universe, a legend, armies turn back at the mention of The Doctor. Companions like the dreaded Clara , egocentric who fit in their travels with the Doctor in between their boring personal lives, that apparently the writers think we are all interested to know about. Also classic aliens have been revived and ruined IMO. Silurians, Ice Warriors, and omg the Cybermen, now devoid of any character, just emotionless robots. The Cybermen of Earthshock might be a bit too emotional, but you were reminded of the fact that remnants of people were inside the metallic casings. The Sontarans have now been turned into figures of fun. The Master a brilliant creation realized by Delgado is now a panto villain. Has new Who brought back any classic element and improved it? Oh well, I'll watch it , because it is STILL better than most other rubbish on tv in science fiction genre, I just hope Blake's 7 my other love isn't revived, that would be too much.

  7. It’s a must watch programme for Mrs Moose, as you say last nights episode was truly depressing. We get all the necessary virus information from the various News programmes without the need for the BBC to use it as an excuse for an ‘entertainment’ programme.

  8. What would be interesting, if Scottish clubs could affiliate with the likes of Newcastle, Workington, Whitehaven, Barrow creating a pathway for players. Plus representative games against, Scotland (league players) Vs Cumbria and North East/Durham Tyne n Wear. Scotland RU I believe have close links with Newcastle Falcons so why not RL. I guess time will tell, but it all needs funding, put in the right place. Again I think Scotland need a good WC, well advertised up here, pushed with the Scottish Government, if the NationalFootball team or RU team make a major tournament it's plastered everywhere, but as far I can see Scotland making the RL WC has had little coverage. But fingers crossed this will change over the coming months. Behind the scenes I'm sure Scotland RL are working hard with what they have available to them since funding from England RL was pulled.

  9. Got a great close up view of a redwing in a hedge by the roadside as I was heading up the hill to Skidby yesterday.

  10. Spoiler Alert! Campbell vs Garcia tonight, and was a real good fight. Campbell dropped him heavily in the second round, and it looked like the young next big thing was going to be found out. Credit to him, he came back and stopped Campbell in the 7th with a wicked body shot. I'm feeling gutted though, I don't feel like Campbell went for it enough in the second round and let him off the hook a bit. He might be a young superstar and being hyped as the next big thing, but I think he struggles against the top names around him like Lopez, Davis and Loma.

  11. Had to leave the wife in the front room and join the lad watching the footy in the back , the wife decided to watch Casualty , which after 20 odd years I find truly depressing , now they've added covid so it was leave or get the big box or paracetamol and the 2 litre bottle of Vodka out

  12. We're still getting regular visits from spoggies, goldfinches, robins and blackbirds. The pigeons have been less frequent visitors lately and I saw a collard dove for the first time in a while today too. We also regularly see greenfinches (less than 2 or 3 years ago), a coal and a blue ######. Other visitors are a wren, thrush and sparrowhawk - I was going to say infrequent but they likely usually visit when I'm not around. Not often we see a chaffinch. Given we've had a fair bit of snow today I'm expecting the fieldfares to turn up and strip the berries off the tree in the garden behind us in the next day or so,

  13. I've no idea where all the birds have gone. I bought two new feeders and I've been defrosting their bath, but all we've had is a pair of bullfinches. No sign of the wrens, dunnocks, #### or any other finches. It's weird.

  14. (I believe) Up to a point the English RFL invested in Scotland RL but pulled funding a while ago which led to a decline in RL up here. It's all done on good will now, not sure if sport Scotland invest or the Government. McEwans help sponsor the league and nation team but I don't think it involves money either. So I think we still only have 1 development officer and a few volunteers. I just hope we have a good world cup, Scotland RL push the local media etc to build interest, try and get a mention on TV etc and the people of Newcastle come out to support us. It would make a massive difference to the sport up here. RU is getting a bit of a bashing up here due to mis management of funds etc so if we can get just a small slice of business it would make massive differences. I know RU players do like a bit of RL, and amateur level clubs are really struggling with disproportionate funding, most of it going to Glasgow, Edinburgh and the super 6, we don't need many players to take up RL or even persuade a couple of clubs to start up a team. But a positive world cup would hopefully make things easier

  15. I know it only happened a matter of months ago, but if this season and that GF doesn't go down in history, then history is bunk. Plus it's a damn good little video that adds to the experience we all had watching the match.

  16. I remember some years ago RL going great guns in Glasgow when there were development officers in the schools. That was until the funding dried up. I think Aberdeen suffered as it is very out of the way and they had a lack of opposition. Like anywhere there is no reason RL cant work in Scotland but it needs sustained funding and boots on the ground and someone to pay for all that. RL has been show to take off pretty well when the funding and support is there.

  17. They absolutely should do. Its 6 tackles/touches and that is absolutely key to me. It's why I play, I love league and this is as close to playing it as I want to get at the age of 46.

  18. Touch and tag could attract a lot of people to their local club. I played tackle all my life but am past the age where I can play it now. I would definitely still play in a tag league if one was available though and I know quite a few others who would do the same. It could also be marketed at workplaces etc to enter teams into a midweek comp, a bit like Soccer sixes, which could be hosted by a local club. Any players in the midweek comp could then be enticed to represent the club in a more organised league against other RL clubs

  19. I've been sat quiet in the living room, just browsing the web all morning. Another member of the household comes in and turns the TV on, turns the volume right up and starts flicking through the channels and putting on some garbage that they aren't even interested in watching. Why do people think that the TV absolutely has to be on all the time? This often happens in my house. TV is turned on then this is said, "there's nowt on, I'll just stick this on". Random show they aren't interested in goes on. I say, "why don't you just turn it off then?", followed by, "what else am I supposed to do?" how about not disturb me when I'm just relaxing and enjoying the silence?! How about go away?! At least ask if it's okay to turn the TV on!
