Re-cabled the system on Friday and spent most of the weekend luxuriating in even better sound than ever before.

I have also ordered the newly-remastered Mobile Fidelity edition of the Band's eponymous second album. If it's anywhere near as good as their superb remastering of 'Music from Big Pink', I'm in for a treat!

Just arrived:

Ry Cooder & the Chicken Skin Band - Live in Hamburg (1977). This is the same band that played on the 'Show Time' album, as far as i can see, featuring Flaco Jimenez.

Earth, Wind & Fire - All'n All. Comes with standard EWF bonkers sc-fi-pharaoh style artwork.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Manic Street Preachers but this video has just won the  Q Award for Best VIdeo. A must for anyone who spent too much of his or her adolescent Saturday nights  in a working mans club.

So what change did you go for with the cables, was there night and day improvement ?

Chord Chameleon interconnects for the phono stage and DAC - they sell them in lengths as short as 0.5m, so a little relocating of components saved me a few quid. They replaced some Cambridge stuff, which got relegated to less-used sources whose existing budget cable has now been 'retired', so improvements across the board there.

QED Anniversary biwire loudspeaker cable replaced Audio Innovations cable. Both were silver-plated copper multistrand, but the QED sounded a bit better from the start, and after a couple of days sounded MUCH better!  :)

All in all, everything sounds bigger, more dramatic and detailed. Of course, the law of diminishing returns applies to wiring as with all other walks of life, and beyond this level, I think improvements would become more subtle.

Just arrived - the new Mobile Fidelity pressing of The Band's second album. If they've done as good a job as they did with 'Music from Big Pink', I'll be very pleased.

Here's a treat - the video is not from the same source as the audio, but this is what 'River deep, Mountain high' sounded like before Phil Spector mixed it down to mono for commercial release.

I managed to pick up a mint copy of Nutbush City Limits the other day for £1:50 from my favourite 2nd hand shop, really enjoying it and have just picked up a copy of Sweet Rhode Island Red too. Even though they are both studio albums they have a live feel to them. We all know the history of what went on between Ike and Tina but the chemistry between them on there records was amazing.
