What Are You Listening To - The Reckoning

I missed the punk era , I was in NZ listening mostly to American soft rock on the radio

I`m late to this thread and have little idea what`s gone before ( nearly 300 pages). Citing GUBRATS for no reason other than the reference to the land of "fash and chaps" and "sausage sazzle".

This might mean nothing to anyone but I`m a fan of most things released on the Flying Nun label in their first couple of decades. The Clean, The Chills, Look Blue Go Purple, The Bats, The Verlaines, The Pin Group, The Terminals, Jean-Paul Sartre Experience, Headless Chickens, Bird Nest Roys, Straitjacket Fits, and best of the lot, Bailter Space.

These bands would have got far more attention and respect had they not hailed from the far-flung furthest corner of the known world.  Incidentally, the blokes on Fox League`s "Not the NRL news" reckon that New Zealand isn`t a real place.

Substitute the Willows for Fenway and you'll have the perfect song!

That track....the best song ever..... in my subjective opinion. Absolutely delightful track on every level. Just love it.

I got to see the great man before he died.

Wonderful.

I remember spotting he was playing the Manchester Academy just after he came back. I toyed with going but none of my mates fancied it . " He'll be old and tired, with an old and tired band. "

That same gig got a 5 star review in The Guardian. He was brilliant with a brilliant new band apparently I've been kicking myself for not going ever since.

Saw him in glasgow. I really don't want to heap more on your shoulders, but it was a great gig

I posted the original on the 19th, now they have remixed it for coronavirus. The original meant Touch, Touch, the remix is the opposite. Raising funds for UNICEF

Ok, this is cool, and really well performed.....

Not many non-white folk in the audience.

Someone could make a great biopic about Sister Rosetta. Need to find a brilliant black female guitarist though.

Hi Oxford, I hope you are ok.

A good song as always. I played 2 Kinks CDs in the garden at the weekend.

I like the Lola CD with Lola and Ape man, which satires pretentiousness.

I also like the 80s CD with Come Dancing on.

Yes I'm fine Niels hope you're all the same at yours.

Having all this time has made me look back over a huge amount of stuff that I should play more or even at all. Until the other day I don't know how long it had been since I'd played the Beatles. So I'm flashing between every decade from the 1920's onwards.

We just moved and that was a to do as you can imagine.

All the best ,

Thanks, it is a very interesting list so far, we are upto 70?

I particularly liked Lieutenant Pigeon, Thunderclap Newman, Procol Harum of those so far.

My 11 yo daughter  is intrigued by Lieutenant  Pigeion, she wonders what the ($weary wóŕđ) we were listening to, to let that get to no 1
