westhuller
Tell me more of this sorcery of which you speak. We've just moved and all my LPs and audio gear are in boxes. I haven't got a clue where a ) everything is or b ) where to put it if I find it. I can't even find the knackin' computer speakers. Look in the box with all the pots and pans in, if you were as well organized as I was when I moved it would be the first place I would look. I am really pleased with the Dac. Though not as open as vinyl the results have been quite a suprise. I am going to get a digital coaxial cable and give running my CD player through it ago to see if it upscales that. IIRC, the DACMagic has 3 inputs, so check if any of your other stuff has a digital output - PVR/Sky Box, DVD player, Freeview box, DAB radio, whatever you have. It would probably improve sound from any of the aforementioned. "We are easily breakable, by illness or falling, or a million other ways of leaving this earthly life. I shall investigate further. Old Faithful we never lose at Wembley

I have now connected my Marantz CD6003 to my Dacmagic with a Toslink cable and the results are very good.Listening to Tom Petty Wildflowers CD and the base is now a lot more controlled than before which I did have problems with as my listening room is only about 13ft by 10 ft. Acoustic nuisances are clear as day from guitar strings which I love. At the moment I have more cables than a BT exchange so I will be holding out on any more additions just yet. Have you experimented with the different digital filter options yet? I'd be tempted by a DACMagic, although I think it could do with remote source switching, for convenience. Maybe the Mk.II will have it. My current DAC is a StyleAudio Carat, which doubles as a headphone amp. Sound quality is good, but it won't accept the really hi-resolution bitrates used more and more these days. My current DAC is a StyleAudio Carat, which doubles as a headphone amp. Sound quality is good, but it won't accept the really hi-resolution bitrates used more and more these days. There certainly are different characteristics to each filter when I have tried them. The minimum phase seemed a bit warm sounding to my ears but that be just me. It is claimed that this filter gets rid of pre-ringing which stops percussion instruments from sounding muddled, giving reproduction that is only found in true high end players. It has turned my budget CD player into definitely a step up in the reproductive scale. The remote switching you mention is not an issue for me until you mentioned it I never even gave it a second thought. If you are thinking about a new DAC the DACmagic is well worth every penny in my view. As I said it has given me CD quality sound from my laptop and totally upped the performance of my CD player. Its a small unit and sits nicely on my rack.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as an option for you to audition if your after a new DAC. The Richer Sounds in Hull has auditioning room and thats what I did. They were very helpful not pushy at all.
