Calais: what to do.

Recommended Posts

WearyRhino - Have you got your ticket yet and stocked up on Sainsbury's finest foods to take over to Calais ?

This is exactly the kind of thing you've been advocating for our fellow human beings.

So are you actually going to do something or are you just all talk and hollow soundbites ?

I see the BBC are sending in the big guns.

Aled Jones is on his way.

He's just going to tell them that Wales is awful, so is Yorkshire; they're better off going somewhere down south.

The Sun, the Mail and the English Defence League have all tweeted their fury at this outbreak of Christianity in a Christian programme.

Are you absolutely sure its an outbreak of Christianity?

I'm not sure what else you call a bunch of Christians filming a Christian service in a Christian church.

The light of patronising and sanctimonious pomposity

ALed Jones should take his programme to Northern Nigeria, or Eritrea, or Libya

Why?

Why?

Because, they've stayed in their own countries and are therefore "more deserving" than those who left.

Although in JohnM's right wing philosophy those who left are showing a certain amount of entrepreneurial spirit and motivation so surely should be encouraged?

He's like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony

He'd like to hold it in his arms and keep it company

He'd like to see the world for one, all standing hand in hand

And hear them echo through the hills, for peace throughout the land

Spread the christian peace & love Aled !

Fair play to you for your hospitality. As a centre for the relocation of war-torn third world refugees, Lancashire is always going to offer minimum disruption to both the natives and the immigrants.

Charlemagne, the champion of democracy - government of the people, by the people, for the people -  speaks!

European Emperor Jean-Claude Juncker has indicated he will revisit ideas for a mandatory distribution of asylum seekers among member states, while urging governments not to succumb to "populist" thinking on immigration."There are moments in politics when you must not follow the populists, otherwise you become populist yourself. You must say the opposite of what (the populists) say," Juncker told AFP in an interview on Wednesday (5 August).

He'll be advocating that Luxemburg can only resonably accept four people, five at a push. And, obviously, the country will need grant aid from the UK for relieving the pressure at Calais.

Quite so. It shows that it's not just the pinko sandal-and-brown-socks tree hugging beardy Green Dem Grauniadistas that are mad.

You just couldn't resist it could you?

Now there's a surprise.  Not.  I think though that he will find everyone who was 'populist' before is just as 'populist' the second time around.

Why not? It works on you!

Possibly not in the way you think though, it made me chortle, there's a good word, more chortling please.

So what happens if Juncker says to the UK that we must open our borders and take 5000 migrants. Are we bound by some international or european law that says we must obey him and open our borders to them ?

If we are, then the In / Out referendum would see a huge surge of support for the 'Out' brigade fuelled by the right wing press. A decision on migrants would have far wider consequences for the whole of the EU.
