1998 Gasnier toured here with the schoolboys, Anasta was not on that tour (don't think) Jamie Lyon was, as was Corey Parker and Brent Tate.

1999 it was, they toured France, Ireland and England.  Anasta was on the tour, along with Gasnier and the guys you mentioned, Mark Minichello and Justin Hodges were in the squad aswel. Some talent there, Gasnier and Lyon in the centers dosnt seem fair. Must be one of the best schoolboy squads ever assembled

Who did we have up against them?

The naming of some of these teams is a bit confusing. The RLIF lists this game as U18s. Is the Academy an U18s team? OZ Schoolboys has usually meant anyone who was at school in OZ that year, regardless of age. (or nationality, hence Benji Marshall, Kevin Proctor, Jason Baitieri and others being included.)

What are the criteria for England Academy?

Don't know how widely known this is but Sunday's tour opener at Kingston Park, Newcastle, will be preceded by an Origin-style challenge match between teams representing North of the Tyne and South of the Tyne. It starts at 12.30. The main event kicks off at 3.0. For those interested in programmes: I'm advised the RFL will not be issuing programmes for any of the five tour games, though individual venues can if they wish. Looks like there will be a match programme for Sunday's double-header at Newcastle.

U18s for both - Australian compulsory education continues to 18, I believe, and the 'Schoolboys' title carries significant prestige in Aussie circles

There was a good discussion last night on The Full Eighty Minutes program on Proper Sport. Should be a great series, the Aussies will win the 3 warm up games easily but hoping the tests are close contests.

I think Chev was only 16 or just turned 17, Jamie Jones Buchanan, Richard Horne & Chris Thorman were in that team back in 99.

Just read an article from dec11th 1999, the day before Gb+Ireland young Lions played the Aussie schoolboys in the first test, dosnt give the full team but says Chev Walker, David Hodgson and Chris Thorman were playing, Andy Gorskie was 18th man and Leon Pryce was missing due to injury.

The second test, played on Dec 17th 1999, lineups were

1.Sykes, 2. Salmon, 3. Walker, 4. Hodgson, 5. Andrews, 6. Thorman, 7. Horne, 8. Bibey, 9. Smith,  10. Parker, 11. Fletcher, 12. JJB, 13. Noone,    subs.  Kirkbride, McNally, Myler, Dean.

1. Hodges,  2. Langi, 3. Gasnier, 4. Lyon, 5. Clayton, 6. Branighan, 7. Little, 8. Woolnough, 9. Irving, 10. Tronc, 11. Rowbottam, 12. Sullivan , 13. Anasta,     Subs.   Parker, Sergant, Ninnes, Jordan.

Aussies won 16 - 12,  Walker and Hodgson with GB+Irelands trys, Hodges and Sergant with Australias, Anasta kicking a couple more goals than Sykes.

12- 4 Yorks lead at HT.

Second Yorks try was a bit questionable. When is an advantage taken? How can you have taken the advantage if the other team scores a try? I know it's largely at the discretion of the ref but in that case, the call would have been 10m scrum so, unless the team gets the ball at least out to the 10m line, is it an advantage?
