Great, so a half arsed upgrade using space that isnt there. Also, how can this be true "But he said the cost of building these enabling developments adjacent to the ground, rather than as part of the stadium, could be “considerably cheaper”, how can building a completely new building away from the stadium be cheaper, considering they will have to run new services to this building, build a new structure etc? The whole thing sounds like its terribly thought out.

“ 11th hour submission “ thrown in as some sort of diluted lowest common denominator compromise brought out of mothballs sort of says it all

Not ideal. I think everyone would prefer a totally new, modern complex. But if that isnt possible, I'd accept the '11th hour' option.

Is that the decision? Might as well say goodbye to the world Cup games then.

@BBC_Cumbria: Senior councillors in Allerdale have ordered a review of plans to build a new sports stadium in Workington.
The decision prompted cries of anger from the public gallery at a meeting of the council’s ruling executive.

brilliant, well done to the backwards thinking imbecile councillors in holding back the town, that's the death of both semi pro sports teams and no decent sporting facilities for the areas kids. Suppose we'll still have some nice hanging baskets though..

Only 6 Executives attended, all 6 voted against the current proposal.  Jenkinson said it was a 95 million PFI project. I walked out in disgust with other angry fans. F***ing disgrace. Once in a lifetime opportunity wasted.

A private finance initiative (PFI) is a way of financing public sector projects through the private sector. ... Under a private finance initiative, the private company handles the up-front costs instead of the government.15 Apr 2019

Anyone notice the lack of professionalism amongst the councillors today? In particular Jenkinson who was smirking when fans started arguing about the decision? Laughing about the decision in front of fans.

God help the people of Workington with this bunch of idiots in charge. What a wasted opportunity.

Replied by Laffy on topic New Workington stadium at last
It looks like quite a smart way of doing it to be honest-I’m guessing council can underwrite a long lease and sell it to an annuity fund off about 40yp-say 2.5p yield with RPI increases, backed onto some commercial leases like the NHS.A lot of these deals about in the market as annuity funds are desperate for long term yield.

To do this, you need a developer working with the Council-this would absolutely be my way of building a new BP.Its a variation of PFI but with the rate of interest being a fraction of the old PFI schemes.

Andrew Lapping (financial expert) but Mr Jenkinson obviously knows more than him.

Allerdale councillors say the new review of the plans for a sports stadium on the site of the Workington Reds ground is necessary to defend the council's interest.

The council changed political control in the May elections, and the coalition of Conservatives and Independents now in charge has always had doubts about the scheme, which would create a shared base for the town's football and rugby league teams, with offices let out to Sellafield and the NHS providing an income.

Mark Jenkinson, the council's deputy leader, said the potential liability was up to £95m, in the worst case, and officers have been asked to look at decreasing the cost by reducing the size of the development.

Asked whether more delay to stop and chance of the stadium being ready for the Rugby League World Cup in 2021, Mr Jenkinson said more talks would be held with the Rugby League.
