People forgot about it at the time

Was it advertised much because whilst I didn’t watch as much sport on TV then as I do now, I probably should have noticed its existence?

Just from a covid point of view , what will happen at PPV , one fan ( the one with a big telly in a decent sized room ) will pay for the game and then invite loads of his mates ( all from different family ' bubbles ' ) round with loads of beers

Social distancing anybody ?

And lots of buffet style snack foods, multiple hands in the chip bowl, lovely!

Is this more or less likely than for an England match on ITV?

When thinking about PPV or other income models, you might want to have a look over at the minimum requirements currently in play for non league football. (Here: https://www.thefa.com/-/media/thefacom-new/files/get-involved/2020/national-league-system-club-guidance-covid-19-return-to-football-24-september.ashx).

All this is to be done on a maximum attendance of 600.

Some element of PPV - whether that's a central fund (that would be my preferred idea) or each club going it alone - would seem to be essential for at least next year.

How much will it cost to produce a streaming service of say the bbc early challenge cup/fa cup production against a realistic figure of individual clubs ability to sell passes to view. If I was involved in a championship/league 1 club I would be studying the lower reaches of the efl and looking at their uptake. Personally I agree with an earlier poster the more live games on telly the less I want to watch it,there is no substitute for going to live sport

Masses and masses of repeated criteria for different sets of people , mostly just what everybody has lived with for 6 months already

Pre purchase tickets , no away fans , no food or drink sales in stadium , masks to be worn , no exceptions , social distancing to be regulated by stewards , nothing really that we haven't already been dealing with

There can be no Championship until some sort of supporter revenue is possible, but the longer the clubs wait, the more long term damage will be done by disconnecting with their fanbases. The league needs to start by March at the latest, and if crowds aren't possible then, PPV may have to be the way.

Although I don't support a championship club, if the costs weren't too high, I'd consider "adopting" one via PPV for a few months to help them get back on their feet.

Exactly so, at Leigh Mr Beaumont said he would be willing to pay for 'live' broadcast capable camera equipment to sell their games either by season or individual games to the supporters, if the other championship clubs had the same attitude then all they would need is Sky's permission to go ahead, and realistically why should Sky refuse? If they did then as you say not having any supporter revenue would lead to disastrous consequences, the game can't afford clubs ceasing to exist, SL can't afford championship clubs ceasing to exist, there are far more towns that have pro/semi pro clubs than the 10 that house SL clubs in the UK, those towns need to have some connection with the sport for continuity we have also lost the community game for the time being I shudder to think what another season off will do to that part of the game.

The sport is in a very precarious position and it is much more than just SL that needs care and attention.

Which might just work for Leigh , Bradford , Widnes perhaps Harry , but you need all the clubs to be in that situation

Rather look at the stadium capacities and the average attendances in the lower tiers , an expert this morning on BBC breakfast " outside is a very safe place to be " compulsory wearing of masks , no food or drink sales so no need to remove them , simple in and out signage , pre purchasing of tickets , no away fans

It really isn't that difficult

I think what we are going to hear tomorrow re further restrictions will contradict the 'expert' you quote Gubby, another 'expert' said expect the number of deaths to have a dramatic and significant increase in the coming months, if that indeed does start to happen then many many more will be joining the 'self preservation society' and congregating in a sports stadium will most probably not be on their to do list.

Re the clubs who you are considering are not financially viable enough to go down the 'camera' route, there is also the funding made available from the TV contract money to the RFL to do with as best they see, helping clubs to help themselves by getting customer's to pay through PPV is much better in my opinion than keeping them ticking over with handouts to keep the doors closed and doing nothing.

I agree generally Harry but what are these "handouts" of which you speak? I think some clubs need to be made aware of them as most seem not to have heard about such largesse.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

It won't contradict it Harry , it isn't outside where this thing is spreading , it's in pubs , uni's , school's , and inside the home when it's brought home

I went out on Friday at 4.30 , watched the match in the Weaver , everybody was following the rules , similarily in the Board Head , tried the First and Last ( Avenue ) but the only table available was among the ' younger ' element where they weren't sticking to the rules , I declined , tried the Bobbin and the George to no avail , so as a last resort the pub that was the Goose , fairly empty when we went in , but very quickly filled up with loads of ( let's call them ' kids ' ) customers , literally no distancing , groups of obviously several from different households , playing pool , moving from table to table , staff not wearing their visors properly , we promptly left

There is no reason essentially all the lower tier RL clubs could not have their home average support in their stadiums safely , no reason at all

I don't know the actual figure Johnny but I am aware that out of the annual Sky contract money X amount is delivered to the RFL, what better way to spend it than by keeping clubs afloat whilst resuming playing if only by closed doors and access to PPV /streaming is made available.

The longer people not having some facility to see their team the more they may lose the habit of actually wanting to go in future.

So there aren't actually any "hand-outs"? That's a relief, I thought that we had been missing something.

This money is already budgeted for Harry , you can't spend it twice

yep, right at the beginning that was what was said at all the press conferences, however they said the problem was people travelling and what they did prior to game, as in congregated inside.

Did the expert address that issue. Say as in we sign a a paper that we will only go to the ground, not carry anyone else on the car from outside bubble, not get on bus if not less than half full, not attend a pub/restaurant, etc...

I guess a half full large football stadium is still 30,000 plus fans, or quarter full 15000plus.

I know you refence lower tier EFL hence not so many but multiply the number of games that adds up if they do the other stuff travel/pubs etc.  Plus if you do it for smaller clubs then the pressure build for doing with the largest PL clubs.... people just don't seem to accept nuances...

I've been writing match reports for League Express and League Weekly since 2014, mainly from Fev, and during that time I've had very close association with the RoversTV team, and my grandson was one of the commentators before he became the head of media, from where he moved on to his present media job at Salford.

During that time I've seen RoversTV grow from strength to strength and become subscription based. They provide a live audio feed from all games and you can watch video highlights usually the same evening or early next day, and then watch the recording of the full game, 48 hours after the game has finished, this time lapse being at Sky's insistence. It is also the terms of the Sky contract that presents them from providing live video streaming, although they have done this in the past with pre-season friendlies that don't come under Sky's jurisdiction, and also a hastily arrange mid-week Challenge Cup tie from London where the BBC allowed permission because of the difficulty of fans travelling at short notice.

When folk say PPV wouldn't be worthwhile in the Championship they forget about the away games, where take up would be much greater, but when fans are allowed to return would the old and vulnerable turn out? PPV would be a godsend for them, so too for fans who live far away or even overseas. And how many would want to watch live video streaming while they are away on holiday? RoversTV gets many fans listening from abroad while they're on holiday. The picture and sound quality is perfectly acceptable even if its not HD quality, but who needs that if it means watching their team? For those clubs without a TV crew it wouldn't be that expensive to set up, and how many wedding video specialists are currently out of work?

Yes, PPV would work in the Championship, but it would need Sky's permission for it to go ahead.

If as expected this thing gets bigger and worse, people will start to take more stringent precautions it is callled 'fear', just as you displayed in leaving those pubs that were not abiding by the rules, I expect from next week at sometime the availability for you to frequent those pubs will be far less.

I would love to go to watch a game but this thing is invisible you don't  realuse who you are close to, a week last Friday I was in the Burke abiding by the rule of 6 around one of the tall tables, one of the guys in our company was feeling a bit ropey later in the evening, over the weekend he was tested for CV19 and prooved positive, as of 7 days later no other person on that table have displayed or had any sympton, now 9 days later still clear, as I say we don't know who is infected.

Would it pay enough to finance the playing of matches , for every single club ?

I stated lower tier RL , no club gets more than 30% of capacity , not Premier League or indeed SL

As I put earlier , PPV will result in match ' parties ' , let alone a pub buying it and inviting fans to attend , further diluting the money coming in

The top tiers are getting TV money , as I put early on , it's a numbers game , 3,000 tops in the RL Championship at maybe Leigh,Bradford or Widnes , not 25,000 at Old Trafford

As you put Harry , inside a pub not wearing a mask , compared to outside wearing one , I know where I would feel safer
