Todd Greenberg was on it while CEO of the NRL. You don't get any higher than that.

“There is no Test football post-season, so subject to Jase getting through the season and not having any injuries, we’ve given him the green light to fight.

So much for the Australian governing bodies getting rid of mid-season internationals to focus on post-season ones!

But the Pacific Cup! Locked in! The NRL is the saviour of international football!

Or, to put it another way, FFS.

According to Simon Johnson the RFL have agreed a test series but can't announce it till the CBA is sorted

Are England playing three games against BARLA Select?

Agreed but not formally signed off?

Do we need to get the Netherlands in to sort out the international calendar?

Aussie journalist Brad Walter has tweeted saying he has spoken to the Cowboys CEO and apparently it wasn’t meant to be “no Test football post-season” but an international window that won’t be as long as the one for the WC was! 😳

I saw this. I think he said something along the lines of, 'we've identified a competitive opponent', to paraphrase. Am I the only one that thinks the vagueness of that almost sounds like some sort of rep side as opposed to a nation like a Pacific Islands XIII or something? I hope to God it isn't.

We're going to get to the next world cup with only a handful (if even that) of tests between tier 1 sides again, aren't we? Imagine how good a pacific series would be now.

That probably just means Australia aren’t playing, and he doesn’t care / isn’t aware of what Tonga and New Zealand are doing.

Probably Tonga or Samoa. Meanwhile, they will continue to ignore European rugby by fielding the Knights. Lebanon and Jamaica are two countries who want to play but are stuck in limbo. Lebanon are at the behest of Australia and could play down under but that won't promote the sport in Lebanon. Jamaica have no real competition in the Americas unless they field a domestic squad but even then it is a stretch.

The ERL don't help matters here. Spain don't belong in the A championship and now there are doubts about whether Scotland can meet the player requirements.

My preference would a four nations tournament between England, Lebanon, France, and Ireland. The second tier can have Scotland, Wales, Jamaica and Greece, Serbia, Malta. And so on.

The other Pacific nations need to organise their own comp and tell the Aussies do one.

Spain are in the A Championship because they qualified though, aren’t they?
