TBF I think if Union set up 2 well funded stand alone Premiership clubs in Yorkshire......Good sides with International Players in decent stadiums....I think they'd be close to killing off Rugby League.

Leeds Tykes were rubbish.....a poor little brother to the Rhinos......Yorkshire is crying out for a top level union team........the amateur game is massive but all we have above that is semi pro Doncaster Knights.

I think Leeds Tykes are 3rd or 4th division now (4 divisions...imagine that)

I went to a double header some years ago with my work. Harlequins played Leeds Tykes in front of 13k, followed by Harlequins RL against St Helens. The RU fans could stay in to watch the RL free of charge, and hardly any of them stayed in.

They've apparently suggested 2 things:

1 Get rid of the loop fixtures

2 Rebrand (change the name of) SL

with the SL clubs rejecting both.....

  • 2 weeks later...

I read in League Express that IMG have presented the RFL with an invoice for £450,000 . I am led to believe that we are in a financial rut , how are we supposed to pay this ridiculous amount of money ???

What a bl----dy mess

If they are daft enough to pay it, I might send them an invoice as well!

Fev's scores for anyone who might (still) be interested and hasn't seen:

Fandom 3.08

Performance 2.56

Finance 2.0

Stadium 1.11

Community 1.0

And for anyone wanting a reminder of that the club one higher than us got...

Fandom 3.95

Performance 2.17

Finance 2.75

Stadium 0.89

Community 2.25

Finance is the one that potentially surprises me there, are Bradford really that much stronger than us in that regard?

That's the problem isn't it, some of the categories such as Finance are just so opaque, everybody is just expected to take it on trust. It's inevitably going to lead to many fans feeling (rightly or wrongly) that there will be a great deal of creative accountancy going on, especially with no published information about how the grading has been externally audited in a number of areas (attendance figures being an obvious example).

In some ways though, from our point of view Bradford are a bit of a distraction to the even more blatant inequality of the system - the obvious and huge incumbency bias. Any team that has spent some time in SL in the last 3 years is going to have massively benefitted in all sorts of scoring categories, from attendances to retail sales, to the potential to improve facilities.

Given the limited financial info in the accounts of both (indeed most) RL clubs it's impossible for anyone outside the club to actually know/have access to the relevant figures

I appreciate that, I'm an accountant. 😉

As TPH says, it's not exactly opaque anyway, just my perception on how I'd expect the two to compare.

I agree. I selected Bradford as a comparator as the nearest scoring to us rather than any other reason. Benchmarking against either Wakey or Cas was another thought, simply to show how we compare against our local peers.

I've still not heard anything out of last week's fans forum regarding the latest on IMG and where we could potentially improve. I'm assuming for example that LED lights and advertising hoardings are not on the horizon for example.

From the latest email, basically not much chance/scope to improve on where we are

What is clear from the more detailed reporting that we’ve received is that the club is performing well in the areas within our control.  The Board explained its position at the meeting regarding our improvement plans but as discussed some of the scores around performance, attendance, community etc, are likely to remain unchanged due to the structure of the criteria that are clearly, skewed to the current top 12 teams.

As there are some accountants on this thread I'm slightly wary about bringing this up, but don't these 5 figures add up to 9.75, compared to our announced score of 10.65?

Ah, we now have a corrected version via the email update. The scores are:
Fandom 3.95 out of 5
Performance 2.5143 out of 5
Stadium 1.183 out of 3
Finance 2 out of 4.5
Community 1 out of 2.5
Total = 10.6473

Was just about to post that myself. Maybe some at the club does read this forum. 😉
