Very good stand off in a superb Salford side.Starting 240 games and scoring 60 tries gives some idea to his ability.17 games for England and 8 tries and equally good stats playing for GB 5 tries in 10 games.Another one gone R.I.P.

He was at Salford  at the time I went to my first game. We had him and Steve Nash playing, Watkins at full back and my fav Keith Fielding playing too.

Not all that familiar with his style of play, but what a Salford team he was a part of.

RIP

He had a marvellous, disguised off-load which fooled most defences, and put the likes of Coulman, Dixon and Prescott steaming through. Unfortunately, the way he played left him open to late attacks to the head, which would be picked up these days. In those days, the culprits usually got away with it. The only player since who came close to him with his passes, I think, was Rangi Chase.

Nailed it there, the Rangi Chase of his era, Ken was a great player.

Talking of attacks to the head, here is Tangi Ropati of Featherstone on the  receiving end of a head challenge from Chase in a Cup Tie against Castleford  and he didn't get sent off.

Ken was a fine player. At home we had a picture of him scoring under the posts at, I think, the SCG. He was part of the scene in an era where we could still compete with the Aussies on a regular basis. He ran a pub in our village, where I recall going on various dates in my teens, with somewhat mixed results.

(Have just checked and it was a 10 all draw.)

Only just spotted this thread, though I did respond to the thread on deviltalk.

Ken Gill was a star in a star-studded team. RIP Ken Gill.
