Had us down to lose narrowly against York and beat these.

Who knows? Tough side.

The Roughyeds’ website informs us that Batley have won 9 of our last 10 meetings. Time for that to change, I hope!!

If possible, can we all bring a friend or a neighbour to the match on Sunday.  This team of ours deserves a big crowd.  Go the Yeds.

A “descent” attendance would be a great disappointment.

Don’t want to go downhill.

A “decent” attendance however would be very welcome.

Sorry mate - couldn’t resist.

The lower than expected crowds is all about culture. My dad and uncles watched the Rugby, back then it wasnt oldham or the yeds, it was the rugby, my mates dads and uncles watched the rugby. They told tales of battles long gone. Ganley,  jackson, Etty, turner et al. So me and my mates watched the rugby. We had a routine. Couple of pints in the junction, then worked up the hill , had a quick one in the club. Watched the match, then back into the club and worked our way back down the hill. During the SL years we did the pubs around BP. After that the culture died, there was no continuity. As previously mentioned there was a lost generation. It will take time to rebuild that culture.

In the 1950s and early 1960s you either went to watch “the Latics” or “the rugby”.

Roughyeds was the nickname but not universally used.

Didn't we get one try before half time? Then fought back up the slope and hit the upright with a very late drop goal effort. Brian Noble was standing with us on the terraces. I think the fightback started after we sang If you're all going to Hemel

How's Wardy getting here? Is he going to Batley to get the team bus? Or are they stopping off at his house so he can hop on or is he going to walk down broadway with the rest of us yonners?

Hope he is calling in the Carters for a couple like he did last week🤣

Been looking forward to today since waking up Monday morning, I don't want to let the result against York lead to over confidence, I'm still expecting a Yeds win but I suspect it will be a closer game today.

I also fear the weather may have effect on the game and the attendance.

Just about to leave for the game and bringing future son in law with me. He's a total Rugby League virgin. Keeping fingers crossed for a good game and a great atmosphere for him

With so many reasons for the poor attendance against York last week i.e. too many home games, start of the school holidays and a poor away following, I feel today's attendance will be even lower due to expense, the weather and the football.

It might be wise to postpone the game due to dangerously high winds.
