spuggies and jackdaws and hedgehogs and frogs

We had a goldfinch in our garden this morning, I've never seen one before and didn't know what it was. Described it to a friend and he said it sounds like a goldfinch. And it is.

Now you know they are in the vicinity, it would be great to buy a nyjer seed feeder from your local pet shop.  Goldfinches can't resist nyjer seed and you'll soon have flocks of them jostling for position on your feeder.

Since I hung a nyjer feeder from our rowan tree we've had dozens of goldfinches nesting in our beech hedge. They literally brighten the place up!

Yes, Goldfinches are fairly common up North Hull way. Whether it's got anything to do with the nearby river or not I don't know.

There are also a lot of dykes in the area.

I put out sunflower seeds as well as nyjer seeds and have finches flocking in to the garden. We have a number of Bullfinches this year as well.

This year we have the usual nesting blue #### but they have been joined by a wren in the ivy

Perhaps Red Willow shouldn't have put a space in between the two words.

Does "bluetits" work?

Tut, tut.

I offer advice on bypassing the sweary filter when discussing summat as innocent as bird watching and along comes Mr Smut.

Who said the "Carry on" format was dead.

I think some of the posters on here could do a wonderful follow up to "on the buses"

Even CKN who should know better has turned a blind eye.

Cue the jokes about why he's gone blind.

Anyone got any advice to control squirrels? Preferably humane.

Wrecking trees and generally stealing all the birds food, need to be sorted out somehow.

They don't like Chilli powder, you can add it to the feeders and the birds don't mind but the squirrels do. I used it to keep them off my bulbs.

My husband also greases the poles  that don't have baffles on them. It is funny watching thm slide down the pole.

I prefer watching the birds do that.

Saw a yellow wagtail near Blacktoft this afternoon. I was well chuffed. I hardly ever see them.
