Sco77
Great programme! And long overdue! I have often wondered why a SL club doesn't run one. There are always players that have slipped through the net, and it would make great viewing. The likes of Warrington could run it during the summer, and therefore out the candidate up in the campus where they are based.

Farmduck
Two English lads - both Union players Why - were there no opportunities elsewhere or was it all invitation only They called for applications in many countries. They had all sorts of replies and it was covered on RL forums, including here. What do you mean by "no opportunities elsewhere?" Do you mean the Union guys had no opportunities to play elsewhere? Futtocks
Dan Caprice had a trial at Bradford before the season started. I remember that. So he's in this programme then? chuffer
anyone else think it was a tad cornball?
Kris
A bit cornball but also something that would appeal to young people and show there is more than one way to the promised land - as slight as that is its a format young people recognise a la The Voice etc Engaging TV - very good My comment on opportunities was based on the fact that a) they were both union boys and it was clear there were what we would see as second graders having a second or in many cases a last go so it does surprise me we didn't have any takers from League land in the north and yes its odd union players don't have that pathway in the UK and had to look to the NRL and a knockout TV comp to try and get a place There are hundreds of young union players with a lot of good athletic attributes that stay in that sport and don't progress for lack of a pathway, and the NRL has just opened that door but on another continent - well done NRL its a NFL masterpiece of PR in my opinion But why haven't we looked at this in the UK - profile not high enough or simply the game isn't progressive enough - great TV for someone like the BBC - cheap programming and all the elements of things like The Voice and X Factor but for great athletes to show off in AND we could get it into homes on terrestrial TV where we don't have that reach now! Irish Saint
Question for Farmduck? Which NRL club is the winner going to? Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor but because we cannot satisfy the rich.
Farmduck
Question for Farmduck? Which NRL club is the winner going to? Dunno. If it's a forward he could go anywhere because all clubs need spare grafters sooner or later. The general response in OZ is that, if a player had the goods, one of the clubs would already have found him. My comment on opportunities was based on the fact that a) they were both union boys and it was clear there were what we would see as second graders having a second or in many cases a last go so it does surprise me we didn't have any takers from League land in the north and yes its odd union players don't have that pathway in the UK and had to look to the NRL and a knockout TV comp to try and get a place There are hundreds of young union players with a lot of good athletic attributes that stay in that sport and don't progress for lack of a pathway, and the NRL has just opened that door but on another continent - well done NRL its a NFL masterpiece of PR in my opinion Any English player should have qualified. I think there were a lot of audition videos around - YT? or maybe The Rookie site? I didn't pay much attention. Maybe some applied but missed the cut. If I was a young Brit RL player I would have applied, if only for the holiday. NRL ROOKIE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA In order to be eligible for the program NRL Rookies had to meet the following criteria: The Applicant had to be at least 20 years of age; The Applicant must never have been on an NRL first grade Top 25 Squad List or played an NRL first grade game; The Applicant must not have played a Second Tier NRL match (NSW/QLD Cup) or a Holden Cup U20's in either of the last three seasons (being 2013-2015). Irish Saint
A rookie was cut for a late night out apparently this doesn't make him NRL standard. ho.. hum Make the big time then behave like a prat http://www.nrl.com/the-nrl-rookie-episode-8-review/tabid/10874/newsid/99337/default.aspx http://rugbyleagueweek.com.au/rookie-booted-missing-curfew/ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor but because we cannot satisfy the rich. EastLondonMike
From what i've seen so far of the series, the guy who got cut always came across as pretty decent and a grounded fella. Guess it just goes to show one moment of bad judgement can end it all.The young kid in the show, Jordan Martin, son of former Canberra winger Paul Martin, looks like he could well become NRL standard. Whenever i've seen him play in the games shown in the series he's always made good yards, always made breaks and scored a few tries, the try scored in episode 4 is pretty decent also. And these are games against NRL U20's teams.. so not quite NRL standard, but consisting of lads who will play NRL in a few years. And at 21 Jordan Martin has time on his side. A couple of seasons in the systems of an NRL club could be the difference for him.Enjoying the season so far anyway. Newham Dockers - Champions 2013. Railway End
I like the look of the Fijian, Peter Lee. He looks great with ball in hand, has great pace and steps off either foot. Unlike a lot of the other "Rookies", he seems to lack a bit of self confidence whereas other less talented contenders believe they are far better than the really are. The PNG lad is surely worth a punt for Championship clubs over here. Understandably he was very raw but had bags of natural ability. I would also like to see a British equivalent (Sky TV?) with a majority of British lads involved.
