Crowds for opening weekend of Superleague.

Any thoughts or views on the attendances for the opening round of games? 16,500 was reasonable at Saints but not spectacular although it was a freezing cold Thursday night. Also be interesting to see how the viewing figures stack up.

I think the idea to open with a game between two close rivals and a proper derby match has worked.

Agreed, two largely packed grounds sends a good image of the game to the casual sports fan.

Saints v Wigan- 16,508

KR v FC- 12,100

Cas v Catalans- 7,494

Hudds v Salford- 5,387

Looks like Warrington Leeds will be 14-15K, not sure about London, what’s the ground capacity? I think we’re liking at 3-4K for that game

Getting the matches onto Sky Sports Mix was also a key move.

For a competition trying to change its image, it has at least started the right way.

How do they compare with the same fixtures last year?

I will be impressed if London get 3k! Let's hope they do. I think the grounds capacity is about that.

I have actually enjoyed the rugby so much I didn't have time to count the empty seats.

Next time I shall try and do better and ignore the rugby.

No need to count seats, they announce the attendance at the end of the game.

If people stop going then what’s the point? Attendance are important in every sport, big crowds are linked to success

Ahhhh but, you don't get it, the attendance does not tell you how many empty seats there are. I need to know how many seats are empty.

Well you minus the official attendance from the capacity of the ground then that gives you the amount of empty seats.

No no no and thrice no, I want the empty seats announced, I want the official figures. I demand to know how many empty seats the RFL are counting.

Aside from Huddersfield, and London, and even there there would be no much in it, the return fixtures would all have significantly higher gates. So, while they have all looked lovely, the figures could have been far higher if the aggregate was the main target. Maybe they knew that full bijou grounds like Warrington and Saints have is the key thing regardless of the numbers.
