Had a very talented cousin who suffered a similar injury years ago,he did make a good recovery apart from the Barry White voice he was left with & continued playing RL

It sounds terrible when you hear he has been put into an induced Coma but it seems to happen relatively often, my sister was placed in one when she had breathing problems a year or so ago, I believe the reasoning is it allows the body to focus on recovering and not expend energy elsewhere. Hope he pulls through.

If they’ve had to intubate him they’ll put him in a coma to stop his gag reflex from attempting to reject the tube

As others have said it sounds terrible when you hear induced coma but it doesn't sound like he's in any danger. Its just about giving his body the best chance to fully recover. Its a nasty injury but other players have done similar and made full recoveries and continued playing with no problems.
