257 for 2 now. What a start!

14 off the first over, and centuries for Crawley and Duckett.

There's a very real chance of four players scoring centuries on Day 1. :kolobok_swoon:

And so it came to pass. Harry Brook became the 4th, scoring his first Test century.

Now the record for a first-day Test score has been broken, with time to spare.

It's a strange selection. His bowling is at a level where you might get 4 overs from him in a t20, but not often. And he's playing as the second spinner in a 5 man attack (where the third seamer is the all rounder). Not sure how they think they'll get 20 wickets.

Seems like they had pretty limited options with much of the squad ill. Test debuts for Jacks and Livingstone.

Amazing day of batting.

Think England could have done with a few more runs - enough of this poking and scratching around! 😉

Yeah, Root let them down. :kolobok_wink:

The previous record for the fastest 500 was 90.1 overs. England just did it in 74!

I haven't followed cricket for years but I noticed the Windies today played 12 batsmen. One was a concussion replacement. When did that come in?

I don't think it will have any bearing on this result - the replaced and replacement got 50 between them while chasing 600 - but what if it's a tight final-day run chase and the concussed player already had 50+ and is then replaced with a T20 specialist?

They have to nominate like for like replacements in advance.

I think it's been around for a couple of years now.

Pitches like this are really fantastic for test cricket . Sheesh

We might see a 5-day test, for a change. I think I recall someone on TMS saying that the pitch at Multan for the next match would have a bit more life in it than this one. We'll see...

We could see an eight day Test unless the batters decide to get out.

A couple of late wickets changes the complexion of today's play, as Pakistan are now six down.

England declare, and Pakistan have a day and a bit to get 316 runs.

And yet, for some reason, we're seeing a tense finish where any result is still possible.
