Weren’t the ECB hoping for investment from the IPL leading players initially in the hope that would attract other ‘white knights’ to rescue them?

Looking a disastrous strategy now isn’t it?

Any response yet from the ECB?

In related news there must be a fair chance now that the Southern Brave franchise is disbanded and moved to another part of the country in true franchise fashion.

That will surely go down badly with whatever fanbase they had built up.

Is the whole thing going to collapse like a deck of cards?

Mitchell Starc having 28 runs scored off his final over by Livingstone has cheered up my evening.

I would be disappointed and annoyed, as I'm sure would be the many others that have enjoyed watching the Southern Brave. I've said previously that each year I'm seeing an increasing number of people wearing the merchandise, so I think many people have embraced the competition and the team. As fans, however, we don't have any control over what happens.

It isn't going to dramatically change my life if the Southern Brave move or if The Hundred folds. I'm not short of other things to do, and I'll probably just do those instead of watching as much cricket. If The Hundred is replaced by something else, I'll look at whether it offers me what I want, but I would definitely be more hesitant to embrace the ECB's 'next big idea', having already been burned, so to speak.

But I don't spend my time worrying about it. If The Hundred exists next year and Southern Brave are still based at the Rose Bowl, I shall go along and watch. If they're not, I'll do something else. I've long ago accepted that sports won't always be exactly as I want them to be. And it's not as though cricket is being stopped - I can still watch England, Hampshire, and my local team at the park.

England won by 186 (!) runs, levelling the series for Sunday's decider.

That’s fair enough and a very level headed response to my cheeky post really.

I know you want to watch an elite competition and who doesn’t like watching the best play the best in anything.

Its been a shambles by the ECB though.

I'll stay out of the rest of it but The Hundred is very far from an elite competition now. For reasons to do with the IPL franchises exercising greater control plus mega money from weird things like Major League Cricket and the Max 60, more and more players are simply not turning up.

It's a nice pay day for county journeymen thanks to the salary tiers but it's not as elite as it was at the start.

Decent day in the longest County Championship in history, Lancashire relegated and Yorkshire get the runs they need to be promoted.

I have no interest in the Hundred, but if it needs the destruction of the county calendar to succeed I don't think it is all that they are hoping it will be, somebody needs to fix the schedule so that the counties will be allowed to play during the height of the summer next year.

Moving on swiftly from the Roses…

England powering on in this deciding ODI with Brook and Duckett after being put in by the Aussies.

England 149-2 in the 20th over.

Brook 44 and Duckett 61

Done for by Duckworth/Lewis and the weather - Australia win the series.

Why Yorkshire batted on to over 700 runs is beyond me.  Perhaps having not been set a realistic target Northants  let it be known they wouldn't be bothered if they didn't bat again.  Shame really.  Still Yorkshire up and Lancashire down, what's not to like 😂

I imagine the accountants on both sides will be a bit miffed.

I was at the game. Yorkshire were assured of promotion the day before so the need to declare earlier and try to force a win wasn’t of particular importance.

Nice to see that the club have kept next year’s membership prices the same as this year’s. Plenty of members were queuing up to renew during the day.

Isn't it a bit of a pointless argument though as to whether it's elite (by your or whoever else's standards)?

If people enjoy watching it, and we're still getting to see some great players perform, I don't think it does matter.

It feels to me as though it's you inventing another reason to dislike something that you clearly already dislike. I've never spoken to anyone at any of the Hundred matches I've been to, who has said to me "it's just not elite enough, this competition."

Is Super League an elite competition, given that many of the best players play in the Australian NRL? Does anyone care that much?

Firstly, yes, obviously I hate it. It's taken all of the ECB's money.

Secondly, one of the key reasons given by the ECB for spending all of their money was that it was secure the elite names. I said at the time - and say the same about RL here incidentally - that you don't need that for new audiences, you just need the games to be good.

I have no idea if the games are good as I very rarely watch. But the names involved are not Elite - but the salaries they are being paid are.

Flamin heck Vera. Jack Duckworth has done for us again. Or more accurately we did for ourselves by failing to bat remotely sensibly after being 200 odd for 2 with half the overs remaining. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I leave the financial stuff to the ECB. If they've screwed it up, it's on them. I guess we'll find out eventually, but right now it seems to differ from one article to the next. One will claim it's losing money and has been a failure, the other that it's making money and is a success. Time will tell.

I just focus on enjoying the cricket, and there have been some great games and some great moments. Kieron Pollard hitting 5 sixes in a row was amazing - sadly I only got to watch it on TV, but those are the moments you remember as a fan.

My hope is that all the T20/Hundred leagues around the world, actually get together and agree sensible salaries and a sensible calendar, so that they can all co-exist without squabbling and competing. The idea of raising salaries in The Hundred to compete with other leagues, just sets my alarm bells ringing. I fear that all it will mean is players getting more and more money, while fans are charged more to pay for it, without getting anything different.

For once let's have something sustainable - players can still earn decent money, and fans can pay a fair price, rather than money dominating everything and ending up with a football scenario of £500000 a week players and ticket prices going through the roof.

I see that Hampshire CCC is now (part?) owned by Delhi Capitals.

It doesn't include the Southern Brave though - they will have to pay for that separately, which apparently they are keen to do.

Interestingly, the Hampshire Chairman Rod Bransgrove said "although I can’t disclose where, it’s likely that we will participate in an overseas franchise competition in November." Anyone know what that might be about?

Nothing showing in the Cricinfo list of upcoming leagues or series that would obviously fit.
