Following USA RL in its glory and chaos

Recommended Posts

Yep, another USA group of clubs has arisen.

Rugby League United.

@rugby_league_united  - Instagram.

Brooklyn Kings

Boston 13s

Delaware Black Foxes

DC Cavalry

Also independently Cleveland is playing a Canadian team.

So, it seems we have...

USARL - ? 3-4?

Championship Rugby League - 8 clubs

Pacific Coast Rugby League - 4 - 5 clubs

Rugby League United - 4 clubs

Never seems to end.

Ps. Whoever does the graphic design for RLU should ask for help. It is awful. It feels like NARL (bad)

Good Lord, what a mess.

That said, these seem to be the most serious clubs in the USA involved in this particular one.  Just a shame it could not have been a regional division of USARL (or whoever the actual governing body is these days).

From what I have seen so far, this is the 'faction' that probably has the best chance of success.

With the distances involved, regional competitions are a good way to embed an amateur sport. If it takes root, then there's the possibility of playoffs between champions and a "Super Bowl" ending to the season.

at college level there is no issue with teams playing in their own leagues and then playing end of season "bowl" matches seemingly at random against similarly placed teams

could well do the same here - just need to have the same parent organisation at the top

Are they affiliated to the newly revised USARL?

Yep, affiliated is a good word I think, as there seems to still be some separation.

Is there 3 conferences in the USARL at the moment?

North East, South East and Pacific?

I don't have any first hand knowledge so hopefully someone can provide better info, but I listen to the Rugby League in America podcast.

I think it's more there are 4 separate competitions, but the PCRL has some affiliation with USARL.

Then there is also the CRL on the west coast and RLU which the podcast has only just covered, and seems to be some teams getting together in the north east. There seems some hope RLU can form some affiliation with USARL also. Very little hope for CRL, sadly.

Then there are a few teams not linked as far as I know to a competition; probably just waiting to see how this all plays out.

This page has some recent details, but is a little out of date since Atlanta have just announced they are returning to USARL:

Pacific Coast Rugby League - https://www.pacificcoastrl.com/ has up to date fixture and results

Championship Rugby League - https://championshiprugbyleague.com/ has results

USARL doesn't seem to have a league table for its comp but individual teams like Jackonsville - http://www.jaxaxe.com have their schedule and results
