Friday 7th April: C1: Oldham v Rochdale Hornets: “Great Friday” KO 7.30pm Whitebank Stadium

Recommended Posts

So definitely within the definition of lapsed fan. Watched rugby with my Dad in the late 90s early 00s at Boundary Park. I was likely last a regular in the days of “Cleggy”.

Went Uni when everything seemed to go from bad to even worse. Kept an eye on Oldham though and watched from afar. Thanks mainly to this forum.

Visited Whitebank once with my Dad in the mid 2010s pre-Avro days. Didn’t really like it as not ideal conditions to watch rugby. It also just didn’t “feel” the same and couldn’t really justify the ticket cost.

The news about Boundary Park and then the new owners got me excited so visited Friday night. Still think Whitebank is terrible for rugby however other than that, loved my experience and was sorry I’d stayed away so long. You can’t beat watching Rugby live.

Even brought the other half and she enjoyed it too. Albeit she was a little bit more interested in watching the Hornets mascot who looked sad for the whole game (well done to whoever was acting as the Hornet).

Will definitely try to catch some more games this year and will be there front & centre for the return to Boundary Park next year.

Thank you to all the die-hards on here for the hard work keeping the team going for the 15 years or so in which I’ve mainly been an internet fan.

A YouTube blogger called TONY TALKS UK was there last night and has posted all the tries on YouTube.

I think he goes round different sporting venues. Last night was our turn.

Just watched it. Excellent quality video. Great performance by the boys. Great compliments from the host. Great stuff.

What’s happened to Joe Taira? I don’t remember seeing anything after he went off against Rochdale in the Law Cup. Have I missed something?

The club can also confirm the release of Joe Taira, whose signing was announced on Christmas Day, by mutual agreement.

Said Littler:

“He’s tried his best, but he’s got an injury which is also affecting his work away from rugby.

“The lads all have jobs outside of rugby and if something starts affecting your ability to work and provide for your family, then decisions have to be made.

“Joe has come to us with the decision and we understand it. He has our support, best wishes and our thanks for the time and effort he has put into the club.”

Taira featured in our Law Cup victory over Rochdale Hornets last month and the club would like to thank Joe for his efforts and wish him best for the future.

I was pitch-side with my camera and in the second half that mascot was stood in the corner just to my left.  I started worrying for its well being at one point, just standing there looking forlorn.

I'd look forlorn if I was from Rochdale 😁

Would like to start with the atmosphere at the game yesterday it was electric and would love to see that every game.

awesome performance, the first 25 minutes was some of the best rugby I’ve seen from us in 5-10 years. Ah Van Morgan baker and Wilkinson terrorised them down that side of the field and was all fantastic.

Doncaster up next which will be extremely difficult.

I believe he is with Rochdale Mayfield, but do not know if he played yesterday in Mayfield’s victory (38-18) against Waterhead in the Oldham Standard Cup Final.

It was funny, she kept saying that she just wanted to give it a hug and tell it that it’ll be ok.

The thing is, stuff like that keeps the neutrals coming. They remember the entertainment. So big props to whoever was in the costume.

I think he's now playing for Mayfield after leaving Oldham.

I heard on Friday at the game that Joe Taira’s knee is a mess, and wouldn’t stand up to the regular involvement of pro rugby, hence the cancellation of the contract by mutual consent

I think they gave the attendance as 824

5,308 at the Leeds York Women’s Super League opener today. Just shows the potential of our game if marketed well and it catches the public interest . Let’s hope our new start helps us push on the right way, too

The women's game is coming on leaps and bounds. That attendance figure is amazing.
