Despite times at the club by all accounts with what’s left of the board struggling to keep the club going but Haven are not the first to do this & sadly won’t be the last.

Not the first and certainly won't be the last to do this... Will you put every post on and 'begging buckets'? Will be looking for your begging bucket comments on the Fev lions post as well!

Please give what you can however small to help the club out 🤞🤞

Looks like they'll avoid relegation though

If they can't afford to be in the Championship without getting the begging buckets out, is that a good thing?

It is if they can get new directions/sponsorship into the club, your mob recovered from the York Wasps debacle.

York Wasps ceased trading and resigned from the league. That club never recovered.

A new club was set up in late 2002.

To be fair, Davo, It's debatable whether scrounging donations is more honorable than going bust.

If Whitehaven can attract new ownership into the club and it can thrive in the community, improve the ground and offer more than 80 minutes of semi-pro RL every other week then great.

Scrounging? They’re just asking for a bit of help

Honourable? Let’s hope your club remain in the black

Yes. Really.

Will my fiver save Haven from being relegated?  If yes, who'll be relegated instead?  Should I send a fiver to Barrow and Swinton as well?  Maybe Newcastle?  It's an ethical minefield.

In contrast, York went bust - yet Rugby League is not lost to York.

Whitehaven's problem is they relied too heavily on one guy making up any shortfall in turnover, and the ground (which they don't own) like a lot of other grounds at Championship and League one level isn't really fit for purpose in this day and age as they have to rely on matchday turnover (12-14 days a year) to sustain a championship squad.

The chances of getting a new council stadium have virtually disappeared since Cumbria CC, Copeland, Allerdale and Carlisle council's merged to form the new Cumberland Council which covers Carlisle through to Millom.

Carlisle United, Workington Town, Workington Reds and Whitehaven all need new stadiums - Workington Town and the Reds may get a new small shared stadium built in the next 24 months, but as yet no actual plans have been published.

Very difficult situation for Haven and hopefully they can muster enough financial support from the town to get through until the end of the season, but that unfortunately will just paper over the cracks unless they can find a way of raising revenue to make semi-pro rugby sustainable in the town.

Eagles had to do similar a few years back when they went full time before "cashing the cheque" of the person who was supposed to bank roll it and didnt...

Thankfully that money saved the club and it seems to be turning around (touches lots of wood)

Will my fiver just go into the black hole which is the creditors?

Which is what happened at Bradford, of course.

Rather than give some cash I would have bought a jersey to help them out, but sadly other than a tie and windcheater they seem to have nothing for sale https://www.whitehavenrlstore.co.uk

Which is all part of the reason they're having to get the begging buckets out. They aren't running a professional outfit.

Should they be in the professional leagues if they are run like a pub team?
