League table never lies to me griff tbh, we were the best side in the division just for some reason can’t get up for the games that matter.

League table can lie, especially when winning it doesn’t make you champions. It’s all about the timing and management when play offs decide who’s champions.

So wakey didn’t deserve to go down then as they weren’t worse side just petered out?

When the rules state that play off winners are champions then you are the best team in the league if you win the play off final.  I’d prefer the league format of winning the league makes you champions because play off Rugby makes winning the league irrelevant.

League table for me never lies, same in any sport the best and most consistent always win the league.

Correct that what rules state so end of story, no argument.

But that's only because SL wont have 2 up 2 down.

The correct/better way is like L1 had it

Champs win league and go up so end of story, no argument.

Play offs for the "also rans" for second promotion.

No, playoffs don't make finishing first irrelevant.  Finishing first gave Featherstone home advantage against the lowest seed.

They weren't good enough to beat the lowest seed though, so they don't deserve the title.  By winning week after week and away from home every time, London are worthy Champions.

Of course, today’s result may have further consequences regarding a restructure. Given Toulouse have been trying to get new owners and finance in place, losing out on SL may scupper that. The appeal of £1m + would have attractive to new owners. Not so now.
They may decide to revert to the french league?

As always, the actual numbers in each division hardly matter.

Start with:

What is the purpose/function of SL?

What is the purpose/function of Champ?

What is the purpose/function of L1?

The exact numbers in each league are a trifling matter.

The purpose of any sports league is to provide meaningful and regular fixtures for its member clubs.

Fellas,

Rugby Football League Championship First Division ~ 16 Clubs.

Rugby Football League Championship Second Division ~ 18 Clubs.

---

£1.1m funding x 16 Clubs = £17.6m (Div1)

£0.25m funding x 18 Clubs = £4.5m (Div2)

---

25 rounds (12 Home & 12 away + 1 bye) in both Divisions.

---

14th, 15th & 16th Div1 Relegated.

1st & 2nd Div2 Promoted.

---

8 team, 9 game playoffs over 4 weeks for both Divisions (as per NRL) 1-8 qualify Div1 & 3-10 qualify Div2.

Div1 GF win = Champions.

Div2 GF win = promoted.

---

4 pools of 4 teams to generate fixture list in Div1. Don't play 3 other teams in your pool that season.

3 pools of 6 teams to generate fixture list in Div2. Don't play 5 other teams in your pool that season.

Stick to it like sh/t on a stick. Don't chop & change.

Let's play Rugby League. 🏉

Tbh though won’t happen mate as your cutting SL funding, would they agree to that from 1.5m to 1.1m doubt it.

That's short term thinking though. A proper nice, clear, fair, simple system that stays and stays will create big time growth......

This is way more money than clubs are sharing with the new TV deal.

Players, all of em, need to think of themselves as influencers these days as well.....

They should go out and sign their own sponsor deals I.e allowed to wear wrist bands while playing with sponsor logo on them, also boot bag.... as well as have thanks to 'sponsor' in bio on their social media accounts.

Take a leaf outta this influencer boxing malarkey, players need to get busy in business whilst they are sipping on lattes and what not after training.
