It's not about that, it's about the possibility of earning extra revenue the further you progress in the cup, especially when the Big Boys enter. Granted, not much chance of progressing after that but an away game against Leeds, Wigan, Saints, Hull KR will attract good crowds which equals good revenue (50/50 split of gate receipts). Money that is well needed.

No one has been interested about it since they ring fenced SL 12 .

Its Protectionism to make sure no SL get knocked out early.

Should be ALL pro & semi pro in last 32 as it used to be.

SL only enter when only 4 left

Right. But that goes back to my previous point:

Slight extrapolation, but I do think this reinforces my view that IMG is a purely top flight centred process, and the rest can do the proverbial. Perhaps it was always so, and I was naive to think this was a review of all member clubs of the RFL and their structures, rather than an entrance exam for SL.

This reads like an awful line to me:

In 2024 the 13 England-based Championship clubs will join eight League One clubs (Cornwall having graciously opted not to take part) in seven groups of three.

Cornwall’s statement on their website…

Following yesterday’s announcement regarding the Betfred Championship and League 1 structure for 2024, and the confirmation of a game-wide structural review ahead of 2025, the club will provide more context as to why Cornwall RLFC will take no part in the revamped AB Sundecks 1895 Cup competition next season.

During recent discussions among League 1 clubs about the proposed competition structure for 2024, Cornwall RLFC was asked by the collective if it would consider sitting out of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup competition, for 2024 only, to ease the logistical burden for other League 1 clubs. The club felt that this decision would allow for a swifter resolution to be reached for the 2024 season structure and, after careful and considered deliberation, Cornwall RLFC has graciously agreed to the collectives request to not participate in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup in 2024.

Commenting on this decision, Cornwall RLFC’s chief executive officer Rob Butland, said: “Cornwall RLFC is a club which has the expansion and development of rugby league at its core, and whilst our preference would have been to take part in the 1895 Cup in 2024, after discussions with our fellow clubs it was ultimately decided that with the interest of the wider game at heart we would agree to the request.

“We look forward to seeing everyone on the pitch in both the Betfred Challenge Cup and Betfred League 1 season next year.”

Absolutely ridiculous, but not even slightly surprising.

Classy response from Rob B on a ridiculous situation. If you are taking part in a national competition then step up to the plate and accept the fact you have to travel to Cornwall. It's the nature of being in a national competition.

The Championship clubs must have forgotten that Cornwall have to make the trip up to the North nearly every other week, yet it is too much of a hardship for them to make the journey once, maybe twice, a year.

The statement specifies it was League One clubs who objected to Cornwall being in the 1895 Cup.
