Today is a hard one to call, we seem to be on a roll and Keighley don't look like the side they did at the start of the season. Last week we looked sloppy at times but good in the second half. If we cut out the unforced errors we will be hard to beat. Keighley games have been close this year regardless of the score at the end and playoff rugby is always tense.

4 either way.

Unbeaten in the league in games played in Yorkshire this season!

Lets hope that continues today 💯

22-6 down ht.

The major worry is for Else; tackled’ very high.  Nothing from the ref.   Else’s arm also appears to be injured as he landed at the incident and is out of the game! 🤬

26-22 now and we’ve lost a player (not sure) -red card and later a yellow for a Keighley player.

26-22 to Keighley.  Well played Hornets - not the ref!

They targeted Else in the draw at Keighley.. Deliberate tactics.. Fantastic 2nd half from Hornets

what a determined effort by the Hornets, I would have been made up for them...so close.  Mc Nally can still fizz a pass, a rough tough game in the conditions, great entertainment....

Hornets hard done by today. Targetting Else late was an act of cowardice - but we played 60 minutes with no playmaker and could have nicked it in the end. Out of necessity, we were much more direct in the second half and much more aggressive - and Keighley really didn't like it.  LIke all bullies, they can dish it out, but don't like it given back.

Same number of tries for both teams - a couple of penalties the difference. Proud of Hornets commitment today. What we do without Elsey poses a major challenge.

We go again.

A game of two halves. We got of to a terrible start - penalty on our 25 = Keighley try shortly followed by a knock on on our 25= Keighley try. After that things got worse. Lewis Else the victim of a late tackle after the ball had gone. He took no further part in the game and had his arm in a sling at full time. The touch judge’s eyes were obviously only painted on because he saw nothing. The ref put the incident on report. No use to Else or Hornets.
After that we lost our way for a while but then we rallied to score a converted try. It looked like we were going in at 16-6 down but Keighley got a disputed try which they converted. It looked like a Hornets player had grounded the ball first but the ref gave a try. So 22-6 at half time and we were looking at a mountain to climb.

The second half was a different story we started playing a more direct game mainly because we’d lost Else. We scored with an Andrade try quite early on and got on the front foot. Keighley got two penalty kicks which they converted but we roared back with a Forber try in the corner, neither try was converted. Then came the moment that swung the game. A Hornets player went in for a one on one tackle and drove the Keighley player backwards and over onto his back. There was a big appeal for a spear tackle and off the Hornets player went. I thought considering the conditions it was harsh to say the least. We kept battering away and ten minutes later a Keighley player was sin binned for what appeared to be a high shot. With only minutes left we scored another converted try and it was game on. Only four points down. We very nearly did it at the end but we were just held up.

I’m really proud of the lads today, they gave absolutely everything in that second half and just came up short. The game hinged on two incidents that went against us. The Else “ tackle “ and the sending off. With Else on for 80 minutes we would have won that game.

First half Keighley were by far the better side, they made to many yards after contact, they bullied us in the middle of the field and forced us to throw the ball in verry poor conditions, we made to many mistakes and gave them opportunities to score they deserved to be 22-6 up.

Second half we improved massively, our ball carrying and tackling had much more aggressiveness to it, they didn't score a try in that half, we were smarter with the ball and grew into the game. If we had 5 more mins we would have won.

One thing that was really pleasing to see was the way in which we never gave up, we made mistakes and found ourselves in a difficult position but we battled back and our heads never went down.

It was ever so slightly late, wasn't high and he wrapped his arms. Penalty was the right call but nothing more should come of it. The fact that it's Else's shoulder that is injured shows where the impact was. If he'd have gone off under HIA protocols I could see the call for further action, but not on this occasion.

Will Maher will likely get a ban for his high shot that he was rightly sin binned for. Aiden Roden will likely miss a few games for his tip tackle, BIlly Walkley was lucky to get up and walk away from that one, it could have been so much worse.

Targeted in what way? As in we were trying to tackle him, isn't that the point of the game?

An act of cowardice? Have a day off will you. It was a slightly late hate on a passer, if you watch it back Lynam was committed to the tackle and Else passed the ball just as he was about to make contact. What's he supposed to do? Live call of a penalty was the right call. There was one shocking tackle in the game and that came from your number 9, Walkley was lucky to get up and walk away from that, big ban incoming I imagine.

Nah, Aidy's tackle was nowhere near as bad as you paint it. Barely reached the horizontal and landed on his back.
So just co-incidence that our playmaker got wiped out after 20 minutes? I'd imagine Elsey was top of Webster's tip sheet.

Never heard so much rubbish in all my life. Go onto YouTube and watch the game again. Pause it at 1 hour 43 minutes and 26 seconds. Walkley's legs are almost completely vertical with his head on the floor whilst your player drives him into the ground. Straight red every day of the week and as I said, a ban very likely.

Whilst you're at it, go to 38 minutes and 33 seconds. You can see the tackle from Lynam is ever so slightly late, but isn't high, his arms are wrapped and he's making direct contact with the shoulder which is unfortunately where Else suffers the injury.

For completeness, go to 1 hour 46 mins and 33 seconds to see Maher's sin binning. The correct call as the ball carrier was on his way down, meaning there was mitigation. I wouldn't be shocked if Maher received a ban though.

Good tough game played in horrible conditions. The late tackle on Else did not help, but Hornets are on the upwards path with more to come and I don't think they are finished with these play offs yet. However don't dismiss Hunslet, they will be fancying a good go at Hornets and Keighley. Can't wait for the next two weeks. I also believe Riddy is back running again.

Both “ home team “ decisions. The team that shouts the loudest. You don’t get them when you’re playing away.
At the end of the day one “ tackle “ has resulted in the player taking no further part in the game and has probably finished his season. As far as I can see the other “ tackle “ resulted in the player playing on for the rest of the game.  One got nothing other than a penalty, the other got a red card and a penalty.

Red card absolutely the right call for that challenge. 2 game ban as well.
