It's a good call, that's what happened with Toronto too because every thread became a Toronto thread. Just like Leigh now.

Hopefully (as a Leigh fan) not the same outcome. But looking at the first page of this forum, I'm not sure which other threads have become a Leigh thread? As for this one, it is a standalone topic, maybe there should be a general sponsors thread, like we have threads for season tickets, kits and transfers?

Did you take the claim remotely seriously? I'd be surprised if many did.

It's this simple and this seems to apply to so many "major" sponsorships in this sport...and others, probably.

(by the way, money flowing into a club this way is still money and helps keep clubs afloat and that has to be good, doesnt it?)

Club owner taps up BFF for sponsorship.

Sponsorship is announced.

An undisclosed amount of money flows from sponsor to club,

Club features sponsors name in the agreed way.

Sponsorship does not deliver expected benefits for sponsor

Sponsorship ends.

Club owner taps up new BFF for sponsorship.

New sponsor is announced

Old sponsorship deal vanishes into obscurity.

repeat ad nauseum.

Lessons?

1. Once a double-glazing salesman, always a double-glazing salesman.

2. Just because the sponsor is, or is part of a multi-million, multi-billion. muli-trillion company does not guarantee corporate buy-in to shirt, team, club or sport.

3. Can't blame clubs looking to exploit things like "success by association" and extracting the last drop of publicity from it.

Sponsorships break down when there is no partnership or drive to ensure the value is perceived - look at the above comments regarding SM views, look at how players and management supported the deal and look at how the club is promoting the brand within its fan base and beyond. IMO a tester was done last season in that Jet2 was promoted via a local travel agent - the return on that probably led to what we have now. Creating mutual benefits or a win/win situation is how all relationships work, creating demand through exclusivity switches the supply/demand reality that drives income upwards. RL Commercial is poop at it but are probably cheap and of little value in the real world

😀 😀 😀

I didn’t claim anything, I put forward my opinion (“I believe it to be 6 figures”) based on conversations I’d had. If was was going to claim something I’d be specific and say ‘I know it to be’.

There aren't enough spare airframes for a Holiday Company for the majority of the year, especially at weekends.  If RL was played in the winter it would be a different matter, but from April to October at weekends, those planes will be full of holidaymakers on package deals or city breaks.

For flights to Les Cats you'd need an Ad Hoc charter airline instead, and the cost is likely prohibitive unless you can fill every seat.   Most RL fans would still take the cheaper option and fly a Low Cost airline to somewhere 100 miles away, then get the train / hire car.

Yes i know, i was being facetious.

So you were trying to pretend you had inside knowledge when in actual fact you know SFA.

It seems we are getting somewhere as people admit they haven't a clue.

So can we now stop the pretence.

There has always been an interesting overlap with TWP and Leigh discussions. And then Leigh replaced them in SL.

What can not be denied is that Derek has achieved the almost impossible situation previously of a top 6 team in Superleague for the last 2 seasons.

Also an average attendance of 8,000 out of a population of only 45,000 last season which was never matched by the Murphy glory years of 66-71 and 80-82.

You have absolutely no idea what I do or don't know, and this forum is full of people with varying levels of insider knowledge in their clubs because many have been involved at a sponsor level or even above in some cases. You've made your own mind up though so it doesn't really matter what I say. If people want to engage earnestly i'll engage, if they want to pick fights and call me a liar without any real reason then i'll continue to laugh and ignore.

I think the point on this one mate is that there are a very small handful of fans who expertly bring threads to focus onto Leigh, so it isn't necessarily about dedicated threads as such. It's actually quite impressive how it happens 😆

This was a very common feature of the board when TWP were a thing.

Why wouldn't they?

I mean, I have my reasons, but curious as to why something with no obvious 'joke' giveaways should be automatically treated as such.

And ironically it was Leigh fans that were most fervent that we should have a separate Toronto thread and that there should be no talk of Toronto anywhere else!

This isn't particularly aimed at you but since you've it up:

If people want less discussions about X, Y or Z, they should stop participating in discussions about X, Y or Z - it really is that simple. It was the case with TWP, and now with Leigh - the Venn diagram of people complaining and those constantly perpetuating the threads until they descend into childish bickering is a singular circle. It takes 2 to tango so blaming Leigh fans is no less ridiculous than blaming TWP fans at the time.

Only a few months ago on this forum there was a thread titled 'Derek Beaumont' that had literally no text in the OP barring the title yet comments spilling into a second page without a single Leigh fan in sight, before the mods eventually closed it off.

Did you take it seriously? I'm guessing many who regularly post here, and see posts SC puts on wouldn't have seen it as something to take seriously.

It is. I've no idea what's happened to the critical thinking in Brighouse but I'm sure there used to at least mostly be some sense coming out of the editorial pages.

And at one time you used to be able to write a sentence that wasn't gobbledygook!

This 100% summed up the state of the game for me in the last 20 years.  Toronto being kicked out of the top league for….wait for it guys…..Leigh.  Toronto.  Leigh.  Almost amazing but sadly not really.
