An extract from an article this morning on Love Rugby league: -

"York Knights star Levi Edwards has interest from multiple Super League clubs for the 2026 season: but Love Rugby League understands he has resisted the temptation to make an immediate move to the competition.

However, the 21-year-old has opted to remain with the Knights for the foreseeable future, with him keen to play regular rugby at York and repay the faith shown in him by the North Yorkshire outfit."

Anybody any wiser?

My theory is that he agreed to join St Helens who then enquired about him going there immediately. York rightly will have asked for a fee after rehabbing him for two years, and Saints/his agent has then told him to play 2025 out at York instead. The Knights, mad at not getting a fee for him and knowing he's heading elsewhere regardless, show him the door early.

If that is the case Gav, have York made a mistake? IF he was prepared to stay the season, his situation would be no different to say,Connor Bailey, who allegedly has agreed to go to Hull. So now, Levi is a free agent to go play somewhere else, York will still get nothing, and we are now a player light. He'll probably go to Fev., and end up player of the season.

The difference is Saints initially wanting him immediately. There's obviously been a massive row/breakdown in communication somewhere along the line. Its almost always the agents doing. 😅

He won't be able to go anywhere this season unless York get a fee.

It is a very poor state of affairs, a club like St Helens should not want to shaft a lower league club, just because they can. You can't blame a player for wanting better things for himself, that is natural, but where he is under contract that should be honoured, either by him continuing to play or a fee being paid. As long as York hold his registration he can't go anywhere this season. A lose - lose on all counts, not good.

I am sure Saints have plenty of upcoming players that would jump at the chance of first team football, surely a deal could have been done for a swap at the least , if and only if there was someone who fitted what we desperately need.

A winger, FB, HB, big prop

Think it's a hybrid we want 🤔

Sorry people… I’m confused! Is he still a York player or not? I’ve read the Love Rugby article and I didn't get the impression from that we had lost him. Others seem to know. Please clarify…

I’m hearing about a possible swap loan deal now, involving this fella…

Think I heard the same rumour "we're doing a swap with St Helens for Johnny V"

After today’s after match comments by Mash I don’t think we will see Levi in a York shirt again, sadly. On a positive note it would appear there may be a couple of new signings in the wings ( well on one wing, anyway) pardon the pun.

Pretty much spot on what I heard today.

Have you got a link to the post match comments please?

Having listened to Mash’s comments he refers to the non inclusion of Levi as a decision made by “the club” … which if you read between the lines would insinuate it’s not his call or decision and he would prefer to play him?
I did wonder because it makes no sense to not play your strongest 17 if you have the option to. Even if Levi goes elsewhere, why would you not play him and utilise him while you have him?
“The Club” needs to have a word with itself and put ego and pride aside 🙄

Not bothered, we lost in the last minute to Toulouse when he dropped the ball giving them position to drop a goal. He also cost us a try at the death against Halifax too.

We won at the weekend without him and we did extremely well last year without him too. The club is bigger than one player so they can't bend over backwards or allow players and agents to walk all over us.

Best of luck to the lad in the future, hope he goes on to fulfill his undoubted potential.

I agree with your sentiments, no matter how good a player perceives himself to be the club comes first not the individual. York stood by him for two years whilst he got over his injury, and, in my opinion, old fashioned as it might be, we deserved a bit of loyalty. At some point we would have to deal with him going so why not invest the time and effort in someone who actually wants to play for the club, not just waiting for the next bus out.
