If a French club is invited into Super League for 2012, which club would you want it to be?

Can't we just have one merged 'ParisSurtout's crazy expansion plans' thread?

That's a disgraceful thing to say. French Rugby League isn't that bad.

Is Super League currently broadcasted live in France? I think a second French team would attract more TV money from French Companys and in turn better sponsors. But unfortunatley there arent enough SL quality players in France to support 2 competetive teams. Maybe in 2015. I personally would like to see Widnes and Barrow added to SL in 2012 and expand to 16 teams. But again do we have enough SL quality players?

the cap has evened SL up a lot, promoted teams need a little time to acclimitise but will do okay, if the league scrutinises how teams currently get around the cap we could then see a more even competition

That's true to an extent, but you can still pretty much predict which teams will be contesting the big matches every year. Only 5 of the 14 teams have contested a GF. And not too many people would've predicted at the start of the year that Salford and Harlequins would be any higher than they are now.

As for teams getting round the cap, you're joking of course. Every team plays exactly to the rules, don't they? wink.gif

A late 1930's start breaking from RU, banned during the war, hopelessly outspent then and now by the French RU who were the biggest shamateurs of the lot, restricted in geographical area.

I'd rather be proud of what they have done in difficult circumstances.

As late as 2006 SL, or "English Rugby League" was very nearly a one motorway league - just as big a joke or bigger??

French RL is a joke whether you like it or not. The game is hardly alive except they odd exceptions. You can blame Union as much as you want. But the game in France and those running it have hardly helped things. Many clubs are struggling to survive and the game has disappeared from a number of areas-and that has nothing to do with Union but down to poor administration.

And if you are going to look at a Sport try looking at everything instead of the Elite. Rugby League has had a presence in the South and Midlands for decades, not just the M62. Are you still posting under various usernames?

Yet another thread that cruelly overlooks the potential which is the Martian Marauders. Think about the TV revenue that we could generate from Earth vs Mars origin battles. Surely this outweighs trivial details such as Mars being unpopulated and as yet unreachable.

Only on a rugby league forum would anyone repeatedly make thread after thread on the subject of a rugby league team that doesn't even exist.

It's always the administrators fault as though all it takes is a good bit of Admin and the sun will come shining through, but sadly they let us down.

Wether you like it or not anyone who wants to play, watch or invest in "rugby" has two choices, and in France the poor relations are the leaguies.

As for the "presence" of RL in the midlands and south for decades, to what great extent was that???

As great a presence real tennis has in the face of mainstream tennis in reality. i.e. token.

Yes I still post under various user names. To wind the Widnes lot up I now post as segovia carpet, to wind everyone up I'm NE, to discuss and debate seriously I use Parksider, to post flat cap Les Catalans ate my hamster drivel/rubbish I use Lounge Room lizard.

Therefore I'm actually posting replies to my own posts ohmy.gif

Toulouse would bring a big city to Super League, with some rl heritage. Paris would bring a huge city to Super League, with rl apathy/ignorance.

Halifax would bring a rl area to Super League, with a massive desire from everyone with an interest in rl in the town to get there.

Personally, if Widnes are a shoe-in, I'd like to see Halifax given a crack. Halifax Hankies anyone?

Wow more french bashing, what a surprise now it is revealed that toulouse may get an invite but in reality unless SF get that stadium built then the second french sl side won't go ahead. The big attraction of SF is they are willing to pay there way. But all seems quite on that front.
So it won't happen.

Stating the fact that Toulouse aren't ready for Super League is not French bashing anymore than it is South Australia bashing to say Adelaide aren't ready for an NRL side. Until you lot have 2 New Zealand sides you haven't a leg to stand on as New Zealand has more rugby league played there and more talent.

I don't know why so many people think that there is a Stade Francais rugby league team. It is just the usual suspects putting a couple of speculative articles in newspapers together and pretending that this amounts to a "bid" for SL that ought to be taken seriously. The bottom line is that this team doesn't exist so talking about them "paying their way" is ludicrous.

A year or two back it was all "FC Barcelona" this "FC Barcelona" that and yet what did any of that talk lead to?

At the moment Stade Francais can join Barcelona, Wellington, Newcastle, Glasgow and even Northampton as places where SL clubs have been talked about starting up. That's all it is - talk. Back in the 80s the list of football clubs who were considering having a RL club was huge - thankfully most thought better of it.

As for Toulouse, maybe 2015, but they seem to have plenty of work to do. I'm also still not convinced that the player base exists in France. Until Catalans start producing more quality French players than they can accomodate in the squad, the game should stay with one French team.

Newcastle? If you're talking about Tynesiders look at Gateshead... Paris? Is a name on a piece of paper and look what happened to PSG... At least FC Barca Rugby Liga (?) and the other Barcalona team actually exist. I think FC Barcalona's RL team may actually be playing in the Catalonian league. So they have a possible chance of building up to be an SL club in 20-30 years whereas it's just pointless even talking about Paris SF having an RL offshoot as it doesn't exist.

Paris and Toulouse are the only serious contenders.

Give your reasons why, as if you were advising Richard Lewis and Nigel Wood.

Tolouse. Paris has already been tried.....................and failed.

2009 Warrington 25 Hudderfield 16
2010 Warrington 30 Leeds 6
2011 League Leaders Shield Winners
2012 Warrington 35 Leeds 18
