And *that* is why football is different ...

Liverpool don't deserve a result in Paris but get one.

Paris are barely coherent in the opening stages and then get one attack ... tie level.

Game on.

It looked for a time that Liverpool would do to PSG what PSG did to them at the Parc.

Even though I'd predicted Liverpool would control this game, I'm not sure why they pressed the issue so much in the opening 30 minutes. Yeah, they got into the box often enough, but it was almost too front-foot at times against a team so dangerous in transition. It was as if they were down a goal in the tie, and not the other way around.

If they adopted a mid/low-block, not pressed past their half-way line as much, and waited for PSG to create space for Diaz and Salah, I reckon it would've gone better than it did.

I agree with PSG coach Luis Enrique who believes Liverpool were the better team last night, but PSG were the better team in Paris and on the balance of play in the overall tie.

They're in red hot form since Christmas and Nuno Mendes had a very good game last night at Anfield matching Salah for pace and pretty consistently taking up a position where he can force him outside onto his weaker right foot or at least into a passing situation rather than a shooting one.

It’s always disappointing to miss a chance (and we had a chance) of winning the the Champions League, but it wasn’t expected at all preseason and winning the league in front of fans for the first time since 1990 is the main priority.

Derby Day in Dublin tonight’s at St Patrick’s Athletic play Bohemians for the 195th time in the League of Ireland.

Its totally sold out and Saints will be looking to bounce back from defeat last week away at Shamrock Rovers 1-0 (another Dublin based team).

The season has just started but already crowds are up and TV viewing figures are up.

Unfortunately it’s behind a paywall, but highlights are on YouTube which I’ll try and post up.

Stop the press:

Might be switching allegiances to Bohemians after a chat with an Irish mate today.

With the League of Ireland bandwagon growing need to get my team right.

Was the chat, "how about supporting a big club that keeps losing"?

0-3 last night.

Last Saturday home game for Bexhill today as the SCFL season winds down and their ground needs to be made available for cricket. It's Midhurst & Easebourne as the guests, I think.

EDIT

Ignore all that! Usual stuff at this level sees games shifted ... they're home again next weekend now.

Haha, it was something about their ethics as a club and supporters,

Supporting Liverpool and St Helens been a doddle for a few years.  Maybe Bohs would be more fun.

I know a Dutch guy from Amsterdam who moved to Manchester in the early 90s who decided he would make City his English team because he thought it’d be funnier than supporting Utd haha!

As a fully fledged Bohs fan recently acquired on a free transfer from St Pat’s I’ve done some research and found the Czech club in Prague named Bohemians is home to Panenka, he of the cheeky penalty chip technique made famous against West Germany in the 1970s.

I’ve been lucky enough about 30 years or so ago to travel through Bohemia by train from Prague to Karlovy Vary which is a beautiful spa town near the Czech-German border.

It’s all coming together, I’ve been there, I like the arty/hedonism implied in the name, fan ethics, and of course, who doesn’t like blue and vibrant pink away kits haha!

Goals and wins?  Spare me from such nastiness.  We go again - Mlada Booeslav away in a mid table battle at 12.45.

Coincidentally, I am wearing my very natty Bohemians Praha t shirt today.

Games are live on Bet365 if you have an account. The standards is ... well, I'd not necessarily back them to beat their League of Ireland namesake.

Haha, cheers!  It’s a lovely part of the world and Karlovy Vary is a photographer’s dream as its is very picturesque, cultured and ornate.

I had a film in an international film festival there many years ago and was impressed by the architecture and colourful centre.

It’s definitely a good place to get the knot out of your rope as it’s reputation as a place to relax is pretty legendary.

You’d be well away from all the folk that clog up Prague looking for a boozy do, but there’s a nice train trip to be had to the spa town too from the Czech capital.

The Dolicek is a superb ground, there's just something about it.

Loads of videos on YouTube of people discovering it.
