The Masked Poster Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Bumped into several peed off Bradford City fans yesterday in Bradford centre. Had a dig into their recent form and the division in general and I can see why!! Tight as the proverbial natts chuff. Apparently Walsall were something like 15 points clear at one point and are now 4th or something. Now that's unpredictable. 1

I thought it was Division 3 North and Division3 South, when did they start calling it Division 4 ? Edited April 27 by HawkMan
gingerjon Posted April 27 Posted April 27 In what is, in my opinion, the performance of the weekend, Arsenal Women do the unthinkable and go to Lyon and overturn a 2-1 first leg deficit by smashing the home side 4-1. Barcelona are still comfortable favourites for the title but a bit of WSL pride restored after Chelsea's capitulation earlier in the day. Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. But I have never liked Liverpool FC, even when they had players like Steve Heighway. Rather odd and inconsistent but there you go.
Josef K Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Mark Hughes couldn’t save Carlisle Utd. I was wondering if anyone knows, has Hughes been in charge of other clubs that have gone down ?.

Your loss and does put you out of kilter with the majority of people there. I do think though that winning all the time, particularly in the era you speak of, breeds resentment for anyone, but it can’t be helped I guess. I’m glad you speak positively about the city though which is waiting now for the huge parade celebration. Edited April 28 by Gerrumonside ref

Yes, like all good championship winning teams tbere was a real driving force coming from central midfield today with MacAllister and Gravenberch. Along with Szoboszlai (and Jones too at times) it is the engine of the team really with the modern aspect of the counter press, blocking the passing lanes and transitioning the ball quickly from defence to attack. After taking the lead Spurs today were totally overwhelmed by them eventually never getting a moment to settle in possession before one of the LFC trio would recycle the ball to the forward line. I think much has been said about the slower tempo at times to Slot’s Liverpool compared to the all guns blazing approach under Klopp at times, maybe it is that economy of effort which allows Liverpool to find these gears when they have to in matches and also has reduced the overall risk of injury. Slot’s first title win will go down as one of the more unexpected ones Liverpool have achieved in their history mainly because no new signings were made in the end, the team wasn’t broken up in a panic and an extra tune was found from players like Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones meaning that problem areas in the crucial midfield department were solved. I was glad to see Mo Salah get on the scoresheet today too as his season has been a remarkable record setting one in terms of goal Involvements both assists and goals themselves. Yesterday was a great day to be a red for sure. Edited April 28 by Gerrumonside ref 2

Yesterday was a great day to be a red for sure. Hope you were there. I was there the last time they won it in front of the fans 1990. Came from a goal down that day too., helped by a dodgy penalty when Steve Nicol was " fouled" even he smiled to Barnes. Ah those were the days , it all began in the 70's with all night boat from Belfast ... Sadly, my interest in football lwaned after that. Last time I was there was a 50th birthday present from my sister. Rafa was manager and they drew2 each with Hull that day. Still one never forgets their first love 1 Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Still one never forgets their first love Sadly I wasn’t there yesterday or in town with the fans as I’m holed up with a chronic back problem currently. I was at Notts County in 1984 when it was clinched there as a young nipper, but I’ve been more times to Anfield as an adult when the title was decided for other teams like Blackburn in 1995(I think) and for Leeds in 1992 when we beat Man Utd (I remember the odd Leeds fan were on the Kop that day). Been lucky enough to attend multiple FA Cup and League Cup finals so I’ve had my share of jubilation with the reds for sure.
Wolford6 Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) Cardiff relegated. Watched them as a kid; fantastic atmosphere. Left Wales at 17, not a huge soccer fan but always looked out for their result. In the 1980's, if the club made the news, it was usually for fan violence. I stopped following them around twenty years ago when they played Leeds without a Welshman in the starting XI. Wikipedia records Cardiff 2024-25 to retain 35 players; only 9 of them Welsh. Swansea have 10 but, at both clubs, the majority are fringe players or juniors. Both clubs are owned by foreigners with no affinity for the cities or the country. Leeds have 5 Welsh players in the first team squad. So there are quality players out there. There would be many more if the two big Welsh clubs would buck up their youth systems. Edited April 28 by Wolford6 Under Scrutiny by the Right-On Thought Police

I know in Wales that north versus south is a thing of rivalry, but maybe Wrexham eventually could establish themselves to bring it to a big three? If their stadium plans come to fruition then eventually it could give more options for rotation for the Welsh national team. I know right now that recruitment at Wrexham is about getting through the divisions as quickly as possible, but maybe eventually they’ll be able to unearth ahd turbo charge player development in their part of your country. I’m not Welsh myself but it’s very interesting what’s happening there.

Could it be both Arsenal women and men in the CL final this year?

Also, no team has ever won the mens and women's champions league in the same season. 2
