I'm at a wedding this year so can't make it this year.  I'm not someone who usually pays much attention to the entertainment other than the match but surely Razorlight must be the most high profile yet?  *Moan mode on* The incompetent RFL have probably blown the World Cup budget on it.  *Moan mode off*

I wonder if they'll be watching in America?

Depends on the time difference I suppose. They may just watch it In the Morning.

I think the last few years has been great in terms of entertainment. James started this off, but Feeder and Charlatans were also pretty big.

Am glad they have gone down this route as they had sort of given up on this kind of pre-match stuff for a couple of years, but I remember Madness, Scouting for Girls and Deacon Blue also featuring.

My memory must have failed me then, that is an impressive list. James were my favourite but that is no doubt helped by the game afterwards.

I think James marked the start of this recent approach of getting an indie band with a few anthems. It was the first time that Sky actually broadcast the pre-match show and started to make a bit of a thing about it. It looked great even on TV and imho is a great selling tool for future years as well as giving the fans in the ground a good night.

James completly rocked the house. Im suprised Ben Flower didn't blame them for getting him all excited and punching a guy laying KO'd on the floor.

Feeder might have come across better on the broadcast if Sky hadn't butchered the sound quality. Not sure how good they sounded in the stadium, but at home, it sounded like someone had hidden the microphones under a mattress.

Even though they were far less "relevant" than Razorlight?

Surely not.

Its diffrent as James do have a couple "timeless" hits that have lasted almost 3 decades

While Razorlight have just faded into obscurity.

When were Razorlight last relevent.

Would be a great announcment if you live in 2007 and are into the indie scene

didn't even know they were still around , big from 2004 to 2007 maybe but not now

If you want a few anthems, I could bring my church choir up from Wiltshire, and I guarantee it would cost the RFL a bit less than the various musical ensembles being mentioned on here!

Of course, what my choir is singing is often an anthem by the likes of William Byrd or Thomas Tallis that has lasted almost five centuries, and is still as fresh and vigorous as the day it was written andis still used for the purpose it was written!  Not yet timeless, mind, but getting there...

Byrd and Tallis connections give you a chance

something like paul heaton and jacquie abbott blasting out some sing-alongs would be a lot better choice and more relevant

Music is always a highly subjective choice, you're never going to please everybody.

We have to be honest and say that there's no Super Bowl budget available for bringing in current big acts.

I think it's a decent booking.

That said I think Old Trafford is getting a bit long in the tooth as far as stadia go - wouldn't mind a switch to the more comfortable and modern Etihad.

True , could they not get a string quartet ?

It is a decent booking. The good thing about getting a group that has been around for a while is that people know their songs which helps in the grounds.

America and In the Morning are indie anthems and will be very well known in the stadium.

For a sport with a limited budget I think the RFL are being very smart with how they are positioning this event. Seeing who they announce as the pre-match entertainment is now becoming a thing
