RLWC Final Viewing Figs

c1.4m average for the Final. Outranking the Ashes test night session. Apparently the final reached 2.7m.

C3.35m for the NRL Grand Final this year.

Around 3.5m for Origin.

Not sure we will get the UK numbers due to Barb only showing top 30 per week but for a WC Final in England with England in we would dwarf all of those figures i suspect.

Do you get access to peaks at all? Assume that is average?

Now i dont teally understand what the above relate to if im honest, as 7.2m is too low to be the total viewing figures, so not sure if the reach number is unique viewers over the tournament.

Each Aussie game got a million or so, meaning that would be the 7m if it was averages, so have to asshme reach means 7.2m different people over the tournament.

Not seen anyyhing about total match average viewers, somebody may have compiled this.

In 2013 there were 13.3m UK viewers over all the games.

These are truly amazing figures for a game the media didn't care about, the locals thought was third rate and directly up against The Ashes first day night test promoted to the hilt by every outlet in Australia.

So are Australians interested in international RL or not? Confused?

C7 seem extremely proud of these figures.

Those are absolutely fabulous figures. Which makes me wonder whether someone could persuade to show more international league - they could separate 7 as the international league channel and Fox as the NRL broadcaster?

Unfortunately, The NRL packaged up the whole thing, Pacific tests, home tests etc. to squeeze as much money as they could out of C9 and Fox. That cosy relationship works just fine for an organisation as insular as the NRL.

What really annoys me about that is that internationals featuring teams other than Australia really shouldn't be the NRL's to sell anyway.

Aussies are interested, of course. Just clearly not so keen to pay the ticket prices being charged to attend - the organisers deserve shooting for badly misreading esteem for the international game here (though that's been covered at length elsewhere). There is interest, but not passion for it right now. Gotta charge accordingly.

On the bright side, the game was great and it's brilliant so many people saw it on TV. Millions of people now know Super League stars like Watkins, McGillvray, Roby are class acts. International league is definitely on the up - more games like that, and a few of the Tonga games, and Aussie perceptions will change. Wigan, Hull and Leeds can add to that when they're out too. If England can keep challenging us like that, and crack the odd win, the prestige it was held in the early 90s will return.

Really decent figures all round. In England we should be able to build on those with a competitive three-game series against New Zealand in the old 'Grandstand' slot.

I should stop feeling positive, it can only end badly.

Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life. (Terry Pratchett)
