Hi guys,

We picked our top 20 halfbacks since 1980.

Do you agree with our selections?

Dan (LOS)

You never saw John Woods play did you ?

Andy Gregory, Sean Long, Shaun Edwards, Gary Schofield, Jonathon Davis from GB.

Take your pick from down under with Wally Lewis, Brett Kenny, Andrew Johns etc

I would agree with your list if you change the title to NRL halfbacks.

Wasnt so long ago the Northern Game was as strong and some years stronger than the NRL so to omit Northern players doest give a true reflection.

I would say Sean Long from the past 15 years would easily get into the top 15 of that list so there are UK players from the 80s and 90s who would make the top 10.

You'd have those 5 in the top 20?

Well Schofield was voted and universally recognised as the best player in the world at his peak.

Edwards and Jiffy were as good as anyone as well.

Its amazing how we haven't beaten Australia in a test series in my lifetime then.

I'm not sure I agree about Schofield and Edwards. Edwards didn't even cut it at club level in Australia and was at times dropped by GB. As was Schofield and Gregory. Fine servants for GB for sure, not sure if they'd be in the top 20 half.backs since 1980.

Davies never even played as a half for GB and was a full back.

He’s using halfback as they do , as in number 7 , by the look of it

He is Australian and 7 is Halfback or Scrum Half and 6 Is Five eighth or Standoff in England.

Always thought Tony Myler was light years ahead of Edwards when it came down to pure talent.

To me Edwards was a very intelligent player who made the maximum of his abilility.

Just because you think everyone hates you doesn't mean they don't.

Indeed ... and ‘ five eighth ‘ always intrigued me . Why ? Where’s that from ?

This is one explanation.

It comes down to maths believe it or not

fullback = 8/8
wing three quarter = 6/8
center three quarter = 6/8
five eighth = 5/8
halfback = 4/8

Frano Botica

Henry Paul

Garry Schofield

Ellery Hanley...55 tries for Bradford

As I always say it's a subjective bit of fun only ?

Didn't frano play mainly on the wing, and Ellery played wing,centre, stand off, loose forward, possibly the most complete player.

None of them were scrum halves,which is what the OP listed,halfback in Australia is a scrumhalf
