Could be an interesting Championship. Toulouse, York, Bradford, Featherstone, Oldham all look strong. Might be some decent crowds too.

Bradford v Oldham should be an occasion.

It’s a shame promotion won’t be settled by those teams on the pitch.

Good luck to Oldham.

When Leigh are not playing (or i can't go because of a silly kick off time because of work), might go to a couple of games.

I hope they go well !!

It’s all subject to funding but couldn’t Oldham target the Tameside region for grassroots development?

We currently have three of the top community clubs in the game. Plus we have pathway teams from 11 year old up to 18 year olds and these are already quite successful. I think we need to concentrate on our immediate locally before spreading our wings further. I am sure the club will be looking at Tameside in the future as we already have a fan base there from our time at Stalybridge.

Tbf Oldham is a big town in its own right. They could probably accommodate a good 10 or so community clubs.
I agree Tameside is probably a good place to develop the game as the club grows and they saturate their local area

Who are the 3?

We did  ( or neatly) but again we lost them as a consequence of the decline of the pro game in town

Hopefully the resurgence of the club will have a positive impact on the community game and the numbers of clubs and players will increase again

Waterhead, Saddleworth & St Anne’s are the big 3 clubs he’s referring to.

Had many a battle with all 3 of them sides as a teenager in the 80's. Great set ups and some fantastic homegrown professional players to come from them grassroots too.

Also remember playing Shaw in a cup game even though they were from a completely lower division. Bloody animals they were, and even though we won the cup that season, only just scraped past them !! 😂

Fordy will do a top job. Once they have a few good wins under their belt, I can see some really good attendances hitting Boundary Park next season.

Open question, but is there much overlap in support with Oldham Athletic, and will the latter’s form (good or bad) affect Oldham RL’s attendances?

Lots of untapped potential in the areas directly surrounding Oldham for both players and fans but like you say the immediate future should be to re-engage with the Oldham public.

What clubs have vanished from the Oldham area mate?

The club now has an amazing relationship with Oldham Athletic. The two clubs are growing in unison. There is a 10 year lease agreement in place.

That’s good to hear as it’s not usually the case with other towns/cities.

That’s a lot of clubs.

what timeframe are we talking about here. Since the move to summer?

Tameside Borough ran from 1982 to 1997 before being persuaded to become Manchester Knights for a further four years playing games at Oldham RU, Dukinfield and Aldwinians RU. and Ashton in the original Summer Conference and iNational League 3

The switching to summer rugby didn't help a few folded in the late 90s

Plus Moston Rangers who were members of the Oldham League. Heyside was another club from the late 90’s too.

Was it a case of some players also played other sports like cricket in the off season?
