DI Keith Fowler
It's absolutely ridiculous that they aren't paying it out of their own pocket. Regarding insurance, as I understand it some SL clubs don't have players insured and simply pay for private surgeries as and when they occur. When Widnes went into admin it was noted that one of the biggest liabilities was to Spire hospitals for previous surgeries on the never never. At the time it was noted this wasn't uncommon in RL and other SL teams were doing the same. I was born to run a club like this. Number 1, I do not spook easily, and those who think I do, are wasting their time, with their surprise attacks.

Click
Surely an issue like this should give the players union a leg up in negotiations - This is the first time I have heard about players not being insured other than the Irish woman player that got injured. I feel like no fan would back the club in a discussion like this, if a player got injured while playing for the team I support then I fully expect my club to pay for the required surgery/rehab or whatever is needed. Gareth Carvell was the latest former player to head the union. https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/garreth-carvell-rugby-players-union-23327999 With regard to Lewis Young, according to the club owner, the local paper states that an operation may not be necessary. A specialist is to be seen and the ankle may require rehabilitation. There is also an insurance policy to be implemented. I believe the former Doncaster coach,Miller, made a disparaging comment about the former head coach at Keighley just after his son left to go to Newcastle Thunder. I don't think Ellery Hanley would conduct himself in such a manner. No reserves, but resilience, persistence and determination are omnipotent. Keighley's owners should be ashamed of themselves, I understand that not all clubs have the funds to pay for everything, but not to have 10k to spend on an injury for one of your own players? Awful. Not only that the club have announced two new signings this morning. Can afford to sign two new players but not pay for an operation for one of their star players (who they should have had insured!). Shocking stuff but indicative of the way that club is being run at the moment.

The player can continue to live his life and work in a normal environment, but not playing RL to Championship standard. As such he is on a, by the sounds of it, very long waiting list for an op. This is generally why clubs have insurance in place to mitigate for this sort of scenario.
