Is this the greatest NRL season ever and possibly best season in 30-35 years?

Hard to trust the Fox League and Fox Fumble data. We've been told for years of an ongoing migration from STB to streaming. Then from March to June this year there were more 300k+ NRL Fox STB games than ever before. Run-of-the-mill regular season games rated higher, in some cases substantially higher, than recent finals. The BVOD estimates are all over the place. None of it adds up.

I don’t know the of any data being suspicious, but in light of the significant YoY NRL crowd increases, it is fathomable there has been an equally dramatic increase in televised audiences isn’t there?

There was a time when I half suspected the bloke at sportsindustry moonlighted as a purveyor of sports prophecy on TRL. But the personal details don't fit. He purports to be a Carlton-supporting Queenslander based in Adelaide. Arguably therefore, character more sinister and motives more suspect than a born-and-raised Victorian Fumbler.

BTW, NRL are claiming an average overall audience for NRLW games of 150k with an aggregate of over 6 million for the regular season.

Why do you think they would lie?

Hey UP, do you have a source or reference for that? I've been trying to find some details on this season, and not having much luck.

Higher crowds have been consistent. In Fox ratings, there was one trend up to June, then a significantly different trend thereafter. Which remains Inexplicable after allowing for factors thought to affect ratings like Origin, Coronation, Cricket Ashes, FIFA WWC.

Over thirty 300k+ Fox NRL games in the first half of the regular season. As yet, no finals game has topped 300k.

Here are some Fox ratings for Rounds 13 and 14 either side of Origin 1 - Thu Dolphins v Dragons 314k, Fri Eels v Cowboys 284k, Sat Warriors v Broncos 306k and Rabbitohs v Raiders 372k. Followed by, Sat Titans v Rabbitohs 292k and Sharks v Broncos 323k, Sun Cowboys v Storm 324k and Panthers v Dragons 327k.

Compare the above with last Friday's Storm v Roosters 263k. In previous years, finals rated considerably higher than regular season.

I mentioned in another context the Essendon v Collingwood AFL final round game. That rated a measly 152k on Fox Fumble. Any explanation?

"Lie" is your word. I'm merely expressing bafflement. And who is "they"?

You said its hard to trust Fox League data.

Fox STB NRL ratings were far higher than expected in the first half of the season. They have been lower than expected in the second half of the season. Some of the low figures can be credibly accounted for. Others cannot. An objective observer would therefore not implicitly trust the data. Pending a fuller explanation.

That is your "they". If you don't trust it then why would they make it up?

Again, "make it up" is your phrase. The process Fox uses to collate the data may have changed.

Finals ratings are Broncos v Storm 291k, Panthers v Warriors 202k, Sharks v Roosters 263k, Knights v Raiders 284k, Storm v Roosters 263k, Warriors v Knights 255k.

Here are a further six regular season games Storm v Broncos 347k, Eels v Panthers 326k, Sharks v Dolphins 320k, Broncos v Raiders 367k, Storm v Warriors 349k, Cowboys v Knights 332k.

None of these fixtures is identical in circumstances, but it's a rough guide. And I reiterate that in previous years finals rated higher than regular season, sometimes up towards 400k.

Yeah, great news especially the 25% growth YOY. Interestingly the NRLW Wrap rated 180 000 the other day, seems a bit like that conundrum you posed the other day re f-ballW, a lot more watching the highlights than watching the games, no so pronounced in the League though.

Lots of free tickets for the Panthers v Storm game. They put it in a totally inappropriate stadium so they have to give tickets for free to make it look ok.

I think they get they do get Rugby League as it's been like that since 1908 it's just tribal yet fickle and NSW have had some excellent crowds for Penrith, Newcastle, Newcastle, Roosters etc.

It's a running meme because of their lack of success in State of Origin.

And to think detractors of other codes on this forum criticise other sports for giving away tickets for regular season fixtures. The NRL struggles to half fill Homebush on Prelim night. That’s very humbling news.
