How much will the NRL gain or lose on this venture ?

No idea mate. However even if they make a loss on the day they think strategically so wouldn’t worry about it as there may be benefits in future, they’re not the RFL.

Aussie press now saying 35k tickets sold.

Do they use the same model of the RFL?

30,000 expected at game 23,000 attendance. Or announce a stand sold out only to have it a quarter empty on game day 😄

I fly out Thursday afternoon... can't wait! 🍻

Landed in LA on Sunday evening, travelling around and will get to Vegas on game day. If you see someone at the stadium wearing a grey/black Wigan polo shirt, stop me and say hello.

I'll be the bloke in the wheelchair wearing Brad Thorn's 1996 Super League era Brisbane jersey... or a York Knights hoodie! 😅

Re the gambling angle, the guardian says that even table tennis gets $13 million of bets in the US each month.

That would make sense given that there is pretty much 24/7 betting available on table tennis and it's a quick scoring sport. The Bet365 app I use(d) for NRL watching has games and markets all the time.

Guardian piece about history of attempts to promote RL in the US.

You learn something new every day but never knew Wigan played Warrington in 1989 in the USA( 3 years before I got into Rugby League) but saw the video on The Guardian link you posted :).

Just incase I share the YouTube link.

A little bit embarrassing but all good publicity, particularly from one of the most recognisable sportsmen in America.

I don't think it was that bad to be honest. It's an American speaking to an American audience so I think with that in mind it was pretty positive. I think it does illustrate though how little many Americans know about Rugby, whether that is League or Union.

That’s brilliant, I can’t remember it either.

I absolutely love this. Obviously I have seen the match before, and have a programme somewhere, but I can't recall remember seeing the build up like this (and was too young at the time to recall it even if I had). Cheers.

At a relatively recent Magic Weekend (the Anfield one I think) both Wigan and Warrington wore commemorative kits based on this game 👌🏼
