It appears to be no longer A Thing.

TTFFT, I don't get these charity initiatives that set out to destroy a business model or trade.

Would charities like it if pubs had a don't give to charity month, spend more behind the bar every June and fek to charities.

York was very quiet for the first couple of weeks of January, but now seems to be back to being as busy as it normally is.

Er nope. Wine is not beer. The topic (read the title) is Pubs & Beer.

My mistake...but a price of a pint outside Spoons which has had some rises on some pints may rise by 30p ?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c07k9edp73yo

Duty on beer under 8.5% has been reduced by 1p, don't expect customers to see it though.

Hull's Old Town was the same last weekend.

Good to see.

Disappointing to see the demise of By the Horns, whose tap is at the Cherry Red Stadium. They seem to have had a perfect storm of bad luck. The tap is staying open for a bit longer, but may close at the end of the football season. As I've never been there, I am not sure of it operates during Broncos' games.

Jennings Brewery could reopen in Cockermouth this summer - BBC News

Jennings rising from the dead. hopeful it returns to the pre Banks's days and satrts bring back the older brews

The new owners were making a point in that article about heritage and the purchase included recipes as well as the name. Worth keeping an eye on.

Its a large site and has been left to decay for c. 2 years. I expect that there will be significant costs to get it up and running and producing beer. There's room to have other stuff on site to bring income in as well as brewing, which to be fair, won't make you rich at the moment. They are coming into brewing at a difficult time for the industry. They do have a good brewing water source from underneath the next door castle.

Jennings was the beer I grew up on. Very malty at the time - about 50p a pint IIRC!

My guess is that they'll restore enough of the property to get production going and start an income stream. Then expand into other parts of the old site to ramp up production when/if they make a decent profit from the first stage.

Jennings will never be as big as it used to be, but it can find its own space if the market allows it.

Developing unusable parts of the site for other purposes can bolster the brewery's funds.

Samuel Smith's have closed down Ye Olde Swiss Cottage, one of London's most distinctive pubs, which even has a tube station named after it. Naturally, the brewery have declined to say why, as is their wont.

Had a pint of Hofmeister yesterday. Bit of a blast from the past as it was my can of choice when first starting drinking with friends (mainly because it was very cheap). The one yesterday had the same branding as before but I suspect it was a completely different recipe. It wasn't too bad actually but wouldn't go out of my way to drink it.

For those who like their beers on the darkside then this weekend Wigan Central Bar is the place for you.

They are holding a beer festival dedicated to dark beers. 20 different keg beers, starts Thursday and runs through Sunday.

Whilst appreciating the thread title is pubs and beer, it doesn’t warrant another thread so is anyone into their cider and if so which are your drinks of choice?

For me I like the dry Heritage ciders from Taunton which I buy online, and the Whin Hill ciders that you can buy in the car park at Wells-Next-Sea are also superb.

There’ll be plenty of headaches that weekend. While I enjoy them at the time, I tend to avoid dark beers since I realised they make me feel a lot worse the next day than if I’m on lighter ones.

Paid a first ever visit to the bar on Lancaster Station the other day, what a great little bar the Tite & Locke is. It is a venture of Lancaster Brewery so obviously has there full range on the bar but also has a few guest casks. Also has wide selection of craft keg beers.

Picked up a rumour whilst in there that Lancaster Brewery are looking to open a bar on Carlisle Station.
