If they want to do highlights, they'll have to do it themselves and give it away. Why they don't already do that for YouTube anyway is a mystery?

A lot do put their highlights on YouTube.

Bradford, Halifax, Oldham & Dewsbury (plus Wakefield in Championship last year) also put full match replays on YouTube within a few days of their games.

Featherstone have a stand-alone subscription service.

Outside of football?

No , not much outside of football , although I guess that would depend on what was classed as 2nd tier sport , where sports don't specifically have a league structure .

For example you can look at sports like American Football . NFL is clearly the top tier , but the College Football on a Saturday has excellent live TV coverage and shows more live games than NFL on a weekly basis .

Cricket would be another example , but would depend on what you would class as top tier and second tier within the county structure . There are first class games , List A games and T20 (plus The Hundred) , all with excellent live TV coverage .

There are different tiers within most sports , and some of the second tiers in these sports have some excellent TV coverage .

That said , I do take your point , and within a league structure where there is a clear top division and divisions below , similar to RL , then football would be the only one that would fall into the category of proper second tier coverage.

I’ve said it for years championship should have it stand alone tv schedule it wasn’t long ago itv showed the game

why couldn’t we sit down and talk with them surely one game on a Saturday afternoon with a type of scrumdown highlights on a Sunday evening work for the clubs every club has to be on tv twice a year

and for the play offs let’s go back to a rugby league raw type of show… having watched the Leeds rhinos documentary surely more type of shows will become popular again

In September, when I decided to take a trip to Wakefield to watch the game against York, the absence of any televised substitute added to its appeal: if I really wanted to see this game, I had to make the effort to be there and witness it. And so it felt special.

If it had been videoed on a budget, commentated on by a lesser commentator, and put out on a scarcely-watched channel, it would have been diminished, just another bit of 2nd-rate sport, there for uncommitted eyes. And why would I spend money being part of that?

College Football is a massive sport on its own, with the top 20 largest College Stadia over 75,000 capacity each.

Right now, on Sky, you can watch South Carolina at Clemson which has 81,500 people in the stands.

Hello ITV.

We would like you to replace ITV Racing on a Saturday afternoon which gets millions of viewers and lucrative betting adverts with semi pro rugby league.

ITV: .....

Do they get millions of viewers? Where did you get the figures from?

Overall, ITV’s coverage across both its main channel and ITV4 reached 16.5m people (based on watching 5+ consecutive minutes at least once), representing an increase of 1.3m viewers (8%) compared to the previous Jumps season.

It was a bit rude of me- but I think the possibility of ITV showing semi pro RL is inconceivable.

ITV Racing tends to be 800k or so on ITV1 with much higher audiences (over a million) for major events such as Cheltenham and Grand National.

Barb used to be a great source, now you only get snippets. The grand national peaks and averages are widely reported.

Top Super league wouldn't be a million miles away from a typical Sat on ITV ratings wise but Racing gets more lucrative advertising and SL would cost too much for it to be a go er

That’s fair enough. ITV won’t replace something with good viewing figures. Would there be any time slots available on terrestrial tv even if just highlights. Better than nothing and they could even build a bit of a following

Would the clubs pay for the production costs?

I think the key issue for clubs last time was that ALL games would be televised and there was a concern that people would simple stay at home and watched it on the TV instead.

Maybe a TV package that consisted of one live game at weekend and a midweek highlight/interview show would be approved by the clubs 🤷🏻‍♂️

Unless I missed something, that was never an option.

I kind of got why they rejected it. As much as I would have loved to see games televised and would have subscribed, they would have made a loss financially and had little to no exposure as its tucked away on a very niche channel.

Always thought this is where OuRLeague missed the boat (typical RL) they have so much RL to offer on a steaming service now and I think many RL fans would have subscribed.

Saturday Midday - community/amateur game.

Saturday afternoon - women's SL game.

Sunday midday - wheelchair game

Sunday evening - championship game.

I read somewhere that L'Equipe will be showing some SL games.

I haven't anything to the contrary so I assume ViaOccitanie will continue their live coverage of all TO matches.

£400 for a season and having some games televised is ridiculous.

If a club were allowed to stream 10 home games a season for a “pass” of say £100 then every club would at the very least be able to sign up 10 members, sign up 50 fans and it gets interesting.

Theres lots of “fans” of clubs that have geographically moved on nth at could be enticed.

We have an RFL streaming service (Super League +) and it could be used for this purpose.

Someone would need to work out what adding certain Championship / League One rights would add to the subscriber numbers and from that how much revenue should be redistributed to Championship and League One clubs.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I think it's got to be something they look at. Personally I haven't brought super league + as I have sky and can see all SL games on there. Even then there's only so much SL I can watch and I'm not really interested in watching 11th V 12th. If there was more variety featuring the different parts of the sport, I'd be much more tempted to purchase it. People enjoy different arms of the sport eg some like wheelchair, women's, championship/L1, community game etc also have a magazine show like backchat etc. Yes there's a cost but if you don't invest in your product, people won't buy it.
